In September 2023 the 10-year-old male Andean bear, named Oberon (Obe), arrived at the zoo after being selected as the perfect genetic match for our resident female bear, 3-year-old Pacha.

The new orangutan baby arrived during the early hours of Thursday 31 August, following an eight-and-a-half-month pregnancy, and is a positive step in the right direction for the protection of this highly threatened species.
Hello visitors!
A rare black jaguar, named Inka arrived in August 2023 at Chester Zoo as part of special programme which is caring for the species across Europe. The two-year-old female jaguar has moved from The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent having been carefully selected as a fitting companion for Chester’s resident male jaguar, Napo.

Dear Pat
An orangutan child is always very cute. So does this one.
The lions look relaxed.
I haven’t seen a black jaguar in a long time. This animal is beautiful.
The zoo has big goals. I think that’s good, because only those who want to achieve great things can achieve it.
I see nice animal enclosures and i see active animals.
Even the sloth is on the move.
The crowned pigeon is a very beautiful animal.
Thank you for the fine impressions from this zoo.
Hugs

Thank you very much dear Pat.
Best wishes to all the animals in Chester Zoo.
Dear Pat,
Your tour of Chester Zoo shows a great variety of zoo inhabitants and the mission statement that the zoo has set itself speaks for its commitment.
My favourite is the black jaguar, whose typical spots in the fur are still visible in the sunlight.
Many thanks and best regards

Dear Pat!
Thank you for the great animal portraits from Chester Zoo!
The little orangutan is adorable and certainly a big attraction, the big cats all look gorgeous and healthy – for example, the black jaguar lady Inka is absolutely beautiful – and the zoo seems to put a lot of effort into keeping all the animals, from elephants to sloths, occupied in a meaningful way.
A great zoo!
Hugs
Anke
PS: I remember that Chester was a stopover for our Berlin black rhino Zawadi before she was successfully released into the wild in Tanzania, where she gave birth to her first cub in 2016.
If you do some research online, you can find a video of Zawadi and her mum Kumi at Berlin Zoo.
Dear Pat!
Thank you for the pictures from the Chester Zoo. It is great to see the Andean bears and the Sun bear. The black jaguar is beautiful.
Hugs
