The Old Man Winter will soon retire and leave the scene to Miss Spring but so far Gerda and Kai in Novosibirsk can enjoy the delights of the Winter time.
Gerda presents herself in all her glory. She’s white, fluffy and roundish – just like a polar bear lady must be.
Kai is a handsome guy
The snow is slowly melting and the ice in the pool has turned into ice cubes.
Kai is swimming in a ‘pool on the rocks’ 🙂
Wow! This is so refreshing!
The stairs are very slippery but Gerda has learnt how to place her paws.
There are still people claiming polar bears don’t need toys. What nonsense! Just look how Gerda is having fun with her blue toy.
Kai likes the blue toy, too ….
The blue colour matches my fur so well – don’t you agree?
…. and he loves the white can!
Bye bye from Gerda and me for now but we’ll be back soon!
After the photos above were taken Gerda and Kai are together again. I wonder why the zoo wants to ‘produce’ more cubs because it’s so difficult to find good homes for them. In the worst case they will be sent to China or other countries not known for good animal parks.

Dear Arkady, dear Sergey!
Thank you for the phenomenal pictures of this exceptional polar bear couple! They both look amazing and they seem to be very fond of each other even after a ‘long marriage’. Despite the enclosure, which leaves a lot to be desired, they are doing well and are obviously being lovingly cared for.
After all, optics is not everything!
But I also wonder whether it makes sense to force any more offspring from them. It’s ambivalent at best, on the one hand – on the other…

Einerseits ist es schön, dass Gerda und Kai wieder zusammen sind, andererseits wäre es wünschenswert, wenn sich so bald kein Nachwuchs mehr einstellen würde…😔
