The Neumünster Zoo offers over 700 animals from around eighty-five different species an animal-friendly home on 24 hectares of woodland. The visitors can experience our motto “nature experience – deceleration” up close.
We are all shockingly in love! Our very experienced 20-year-old female harbour seal Lotte gave birth to a healthy female howler this morning. After a 6-year break, the zoo team is really happy about this beady-eyed bundle of joy.
The seal enclosure is partially cordoned off so that mum and pup can have a little peace and quiet. Nevertheless, the little seal is easy to observe and has already been in the water with mum Lotte several times today. Welcome little howler – we are so happy that you are here!
11 at one stroke! Our Arctic fox mum Pinja really is a super mum! 11!!! Cubs, 10 boys and 1 girl, have been raised by Pinja in the last few weeks. Father Bollek also helps a little, but of course Pinja has to nurse the rascals on her own.
The zoo team keeps a constant eye on the 11 young cubs. The cubs are weighed every two days so that we can be sure that they are all getting enough milk.
The fox cubs can now be seen more and more frequently by visitors. The observation tower and a section in front of the enclosure remain closed off to visitors in order to give the Arctic fox family a little more peace and quiet. The animals also have 2 more enclosures behind the scenes. The cubs are currently playing very often in the visitor enclosure and it is great fun to watch the young foxes romping around.
Lady moose Ronja has given birth to twins again this year. The two little female moose calves were allowed onto the large moose enclosure in the end of June.

Kinder, wie der junge Elch oder
die kleine Robbe sind niedlich.
Aha, viele Jungtiere werden also auch noch im Sommer geboren.
Ich dachte immer nur im Frühjahr, allenfalls noch im Herbst.
11 kleine Füchslein sind eine muntere Schar und die kleine Robbe ist auch
allerliebst.

Man sagt Elchen gerne nach, dass sie dumm, bzw. nicht lernfähig sind. Das kann ich nicht beurteilen; ich mag sie und ihre Kälber sind bezaubernd!
