🐻 Malla the brown bear has woken up from hibernation!

Today Malla slowly made her way out of her den and began exploring her enclosure after the long winter.

First some sniffing and looking around, then a few bites of pear and carrot.

After hibernation things start off quite slowly.

Malla can spend time outside in her enclosure at her own pace, but she may still feel sleepy and return to the den for another nap from time to time.

A bear waking up from hibernation is one of the sure signs that spring has arrived at Ranua Wildlife Park. 🌱

Mervi: On behalf of the readers of this magazine I wish Malla, Venus, Inuvik, Kara and all the animals in Ranua a pleasant Spring time! Of course, I wish the same to the keepers, vets and visitors!

  1. Dear Mervi!
The Spring in Ranua looks like the Winter for us, but the days are longer now. Malla made the first walk outside. I wish all animals in the zoo Ranua the wonderful Spring time.
    Hugs
    Ludmila

  2. Dear Mervi!
I’m so glad that even the brown bears in northern Finland have realised that spring is just around the corner, even though there’s still plenty of snow on the ground. But perhaps Malla was so hungry – as well as following her internal clock – that nothing could keep her in the den any longer? You can see from the short video just how heartily she’s eating…

    Hugs
    Anke
