24.6.2023 – Photos by Petra Ballon
Another hot Summer is here and both humans and animals have mixed feelings about the heat. Of course, the sunshine is wonderful but very often it makes the weather far too hot these days. I’m sure the keepers in Wilhelma are doing everything to keep their beloved animals cool and happy.
One can’t but love this sweet family with the cutest ears!
Hide and seek in the shadow
LJ Star usually observes the surroundings from his home …
… but he comes out for a moment when mealworms are served.
Fanaloka at Wilhelma. There are only 3 husbandries in Europe, Bratten Fleming in Great Britain, Neunkirchen and now Wilhelma.
Over the Whitsun holidays, five little pith horns were born at Wilhelma in Stuttgart – which of course do not yet have the imposing, spiralling horns with which the adult bucks fight their territorial battles.
As a result, the herd of marrowhore has grown to eleven animals. The cute fawns, a pair of twins and three single young animals, can already be discovered by Wilhelma visitors.
Snow leopard Lola likes the high grass because it gives shelter from the hot sun rays.
Nio and Duma have the same idea.

Edeka the sloth knows how to take it easy. 🙂

Of course, Petra even met a lovely squirrel during her visit.
Finally a nice photo of the swan family in the Schlossgarten in Stuttgart
Knuti’s Magazine wishes all the animals and their keepers a happy Summer time. Naturally, we wish the same to our excellent photographer Petra. Thank you so much for the beautiful photos!
These are indeed lovely photos from most beautiful animals at ‘WILHELMA’. Well done Mrs Ballon. And the accomapnying text/info by Mervi is helpful and entertaining. Anyway, I have to try now to get to know for some of the animals shown which species they are, e.g. the lambs with the hare/rabbit ears (funny!).
Thanks to the both of you.
PS:
A sloth with the name ‘EDEKA’ must be the godshild of a certain German grocery shop/supermarket. . . . Amazing that direction and keepers of ‘Wilhelma’ accepted this name or possibly even
have chosen this name themselves . . .(!?)
Liebe Petra!
Vielen Dank!
Viele Grüße
Anke
