Hudson is now 14 years old

On the 12th of October Hudson celebrated his 14th birthday. Our belated happy birthday wishes to you, Hudson 🐻‍❄️ 🎈

Do you remember? Hudson, following a brief stay at Assiniboine Park Zoo, returned to Toronto and continues to grow to the delight of our Wildlife Care team and guests.

Long-time Zoo guests will also remember that in 2011, we began an exciting, yet nerve-racking journey in hand-raising the first polar bear cub from birth at your Toronto Zoo. Arriving to the Zoo’s Wildlife Health and Science Centre at just a day old, Zoo staff cared for Hudson around the clock for his first 107 days of life.

When looking back at his days as a small cub, Hudson showcased an overwhelming sense of will. He pulled through many ups and downs during his first month of life and watched him become the incredibly beautiful Polar bear he is today.

Fast forward to today, and as a playful, adolescent male, his favourite enrichment items are sticks and twigs. He will spend most afternoons laying in the grass holding onto sticks provided by Wildlife Care and sourced from different animal habitats throughout the Zoo. One of his favourite treats continue to be frozen watermelons.

Hudson, along with the other polar bears in our care, are Arctic Ambassadors, spreading awareness of the threats facing polar bears in the wild and the importance of supporting conservation efforts for all arctic species.

During your next visit to your Toronto Zoo, stop by Tundra Trek and visit with him. With construction continuing in and around the pathway surrounding the Polar bear habitat, Hudson, Aurora, Nikita and Juno may not be viewable, as part of our commitment to their full choice and control 🐻‍❄️
