Petra has visited the Augsburg Zoo where there are many different species in this zoo. Here are some examples of them.
First a couple of representants of the reptiles. I don’t know all the English names but maybe you know?
The lady Stirnlappenbasilisk – must be a member of the Green Party! đ
PantherchamÀleon
It’s easy to understand why this fellow is called ‘Blauer Zwerggecko’.
This schimp looks very thoughtful Maybe he’s worried about the situation in the world for the time being – just like us!
Ring tailed lemur can be proud of it’s long tail!
Augsburg Zoo is home to impressive African lions, which all visitors love to marvel at. Their large enclosure looks like a small savannah, with rocks, trees and plenty of space to run around. The lions are part of an important conservation programme because their species is endangered in the wild. The feedings are particularly exciting, where the lions eat large pieces of meat – almost as if they were on the hunt!
The leopard or panther is one of the most popular zoo animals. Due to its former importance for the fur trade and its endangerment, among other things, it is also of zoo educational interest. It is therefore exhibited in numerous zoos, although the number of enclosures tends to decrease because zoos tend to enlarge the enclosures when redesigning big cat facilities and any reduction in the number of species tends to be at the expense of the leopard rather than the tiger or lion.
Endangered due to the illegal trade in gall bladders in particular for the purposes of traditional Chinese medicine, the collared bear is no longer kept very often in European zoos. Where available, it can be used in zoo education as an example of how the supposed medicinal effects of body parts can promote illegal hunting and have catastrophic effects on the populations of the species concerned.
The coati itself is not endangered, but as a diurnal, social and very busy species, it is an excellent ambassador for nature conservation in South America. It is currently the second most common small bear species in European zoos after the raccoon.

This is what I call a top meeting! đ
Golden takins are identified by their distinctive golden coats and are classified as vulnerable due to habitat loss and poaching. They possess thick coats which contain oils that keep them insulated and prevents heat loss.
This must be a start of a beautiful friendship!
HiÂmaÂlaÂya-Land
With a planned investment of 6.5 million euros, the âHimalayan Landâ will be the second largest construction project in the history of Augsburg Zoo. The area, which previously comprised the enclosures for mountain ungulates such as ibex, the Australian enclosure with emus and kangaroos and the water buffalo enclosure, no longer meets modern requirements for species-appropriate zoo keeping and is now to be fundamentally remodelled.
Liebe Petra,
