On the 3rd of October I was once again at the Darwineum and afterwards I visited the polar bears of course. Although the weather was ‘so-so’, I was able to take a lot of nice pictures.
Skadi, very close to the windscreen.
The bears showed in many different ways how comfortable they feel. They rolled around in the meadow, played in the water and on land and were completely happy.
Anyone who knows Skadi a bit knows exactly what she wants now.
And indeed, Sizzel is still suckling her almost three-year-old girls.
Sated and content, she has snuggled up in her mum’s fur.
What a cute milk beard Skadi has!
Next morning I continued with the contented bear family.
At 7.30am the thermometer outside the house showed 2 degrees and there was thick fog in the meadow. For me, that’s a winter morning. But it was going to be a beautiful, sunny day.
Sizzel had found a nice spot in the meadow and wanted to play with the dented hay ball in peace and quiet.
But as so often, her daughters wanted to take the toy away from her. At first, both bears laid close to their mum. Skadi soon found something else to do. Kaja, however, did not want to give up so quickly.
Mum, we need the hay ball. Can you please give it to me very quickly?
Mum, since when do mothers play alone and not share with their children? Okay, if she doesn’t hand over the ball voluntarily, I’ll steal it.
Forget it, Kaja, don’t even try. I’m playing now!
Will she notice if I take the ball away very carefully? Nothing there, my child. I won’t be tricked today.
Oh mummy, you’re the very, very best mummy. But only if I can have the toy. Hm, do you understand that? I always thought that children could have anything they wanted.
Kaja didn’t sulk for long as she found another toy in the large mulch bed.
Who wouldn’t love this boomsie …. 🙂
It wasn’t long before Skadi turned up with her playing mum. She also tried to take the hay ball from her, but of course in vain. Mum is still playing.
Hm, I’ll definitely get the ball.
Skadi tries the gentle way. But Sizzel isn’t sharing today.
Mum isn’t being nice to us today. Then I’ll just go to Kaja in the mulch bed.
Skadi had taken a delineator post with her into the mulch.
Unfortunately, Kaja liked it too and took it from her sister.
She was quite angry about it and bit her sister’s leg heartily. But shortly afterwards, sibling peace was restored.
While the children had fun in the mulch, Sizzel played happily and undisturbed in the meadow.

I have to admit Iam not so familiar with SIZZEL and her children SKADI and KAJA as I have lost trace of a lot in the meantime; however, the ‘cuteness warning’ in ‘Die Knuipe’ was given with good reason.
Thank you very much, dear ‘GH’ (Gisela) for sharing your gorgeous photographs of the polar bear family, inclusive of the breathtakingly beautiful pics of the early morning scene of nature.
I was as much impressed by the English entertaining accompanying text and asked myself how you could get such fluent English skills until I was more or less convinced that the text is Mervi’s work. Consequently also ‘Thank you’ to Mervi for her share, inclusive of the editorial efforts.
That was a very nice night-break – Back to bed now . . .
Vielen Dank liebe Gisela.
Best wishes to Sizzel, Skadi and Kaja.
