Today Nuka decided to bring her baby out for the first time. This baby is a miracle because the odds for his survival didn’t look so promising. However, here he is!
Of course, the big world outside the den is a bit frightening at first sight.
Soon the curiousity won over fear.
Being close to mama is the best thing to do for a little boy. Oh my, did you taste mom’s boomsie …. 🙂
Nuka must be very careful watching her steps. Her paws are bigger than her baby at the moment.

Thank you very much for the lovely clips from Karlsruhe Zoo with the polar bear cub! It really is a small miracle that he survived the first weeks of his life under the difficult conditions in the outdoor enclosure and will now continue to grow in the protected indoor area. His first exit is indeed very early, but the zookeepers know what is good and what is not. Nuka is a great mum and has done everything right!
