25.4.2026 – Photos by Hasumi Nobuo
This Saturday was a very special day at the Oga Aquarium in Japan. The name of the polar bear baby was announced.
The sweet Little man got the name Momota – maybe even spelled as Momo Ta …
It’s easy to see how the keepers decided to give the cubbie this name. It’s after mama Momo and the papa GoTa.
Mama, isn’t it nice I have a name now. I like to be called after you and papa!
Papa Gota
What a nice portrait of Momo and her son!
Of course, Momota wanted to show us his cute tongue again. 🙂
He’s already eating some solid food like fish. The red spot on his forehead isn’t an injury but a ‘memory’ from a play with a fish head. 🙂
Momota is a playful little guy.
He proudly presented his toys to his fans.
Blue seems to be a favourite colour but even red is quite OK. 🙂
Oh bear, what’s this? A yellow mushroom …. no, it’s a baby bear in disguise! 🙂
Please, feel free to give me a standing ovation! Thank you! Arigato!
That ball is almost as big as I am but soon it will a little ball compare to me! I will grow as big as my mama and papa!
That’s it for today! Sayonara! さようなら

Dear Hasumi Nabuo, dear Mervi!
It’s great to be getting updates from Japan too! Momota is a lovely name and the little one is adorable, especially when he’s playing. The photo where he looks as if he’s dressed up as an Easter egg is a really funny and unusual snapshot.
Thanks for sharing!
