Happy Hug Day!

21.1.2023 by Mervi

Today is the International Hug Day so, please, don’t forget to give gentle hugs to your love ones – both two- and fourlegged! On second thought – why don’t we make every day a hug day?!

To celebrate this day I want to show you some nice ‘huggy’ photos.

A polar bear mother with her cubs is always a heart warming sight.

Of course, even hugging cubbies are ever so cute!

Adult polar bears love wrestling games but there are often also very tender moments …..

  1. Dear Mervi!
Thank you for this wonderful post and the heartwarming pictures of small and big affectionate polar bears!
In Germany this day is called “Weltknuddeltag” 🙂

“The aim of the day is to be able to better express feelings in public and to get closer to each other. It is explicitly not the aim to hug complete strangers on the street, as in the Free Hugs Campaign. A distinction is made between different forms of hugging, including the comforting big bear hug, consolent hug, mutual hug or the pick-up hug.[7]”

I guess many of us could use a comforting big bear hug. So we should take inspiration from these touching pictures and just give our friends and loved ones a hug!

  2. Dear Mervi,

these are very touching photos of hugs between mother and child, siblings and bear friends.

Hugs and any form of tender physical contact as well as stroking are essential for the development of all living beings. That is why such pictures touch us so deeply and Anita, your explanations are super.

Especially in the contactless time through Corona, many people – especially old and sick people – have suffered very much from this deficit.
So let’s be happy that we can and may be a little more generous in this respect again.

Thank you for the charming photos and a virtual hug to Malmö!
