Goodbye, Friida! 💙 🐻 ❄️💙
At the end of March, two young female polar bears Skadi and Kaja will move from Rostock Zoo to Tallinn Zoo from Germany. Skadi and Kaja will live in the current enclosure of Friida the polar bear, Friida will live in Denmark’s Scandinavian Wildlife Park.
Friida has lived in Tallinn Zoo all her life – she was born, raised, found mates and had sons here. Anyone who still wants to see Friida can come and meet her for another month!
Polar bear sisters Skadi and Kaja were born at Rostock Zoo in 2021. year 14. in November and have still been living with their mum Sizzel. Polar bears living in the wild leave their mothers and usually start their independent lives at the age of two to three, so it’s time for the twins to move to a new environment.
The relocation of polar bears from one zoo to another takes place in Europe on the recommendation of the European Endangered Species Reproduction Programme (EEP). The aim of the reproduction programme is to preserve the species, which is why the polar bear population must be kept economical among European zoos. Tallinn Zoo is part of this larger system and therefore we have to say goodbye to our beloved Friida.

Dear Friida! I had hoped you could spend your senior years in your home zoo but I wish you a happy life in Denmark!
Now that she can no longer reproduce, she should go. I think that’s shabby! Where is the love and respect for the animal that was born there and has spent its whole life there? That’s what I thought too when our dear Mücke moved: shabby!

Der Zoo Tallinn schreibt dazu, dass der Umzug positiv für Friida zu bewerten sei…
So bleibt es nur zu hoffen, dass es auch so sein wird und Fridda alles GUTE für diesen neuen Lebensabschnitt zu wünschen….🐻❄️💝👋
Ich hoffe Frida wird glücklich in dem anderen Zoo.
Anke, ich teile deine Wut über diese Entscheidung!
Frieda kann oder soll sich nicht mehr fortpflanzen, damit ist ihr Wert gesunken, weil sie keine attraktiven und für den Zoo gewinnbringende Jungtiere präsentieren kann und deshalb ausrangiert wird.Das ist die Geldmaschiene “Zuchtprogramm. Pfui!

Ich schließe mich den Vorschreiberinnen an.
Bleibt zu hoffen, dass Frida in Dänemark einen
ruhigen Lebensabend genießen kann. Der Park
ansich ist ja großzügig und hat genug Platz.
Mir tuts auch sehr leid wegen Friida,aber die allerbesten Wünsche für sie in Dänemark,möge es ihr dort noch lang gut gehen! 😘💓
