Paws UP! I had PURRfect timing on my visit to Henry Vilas Zoo to see, Berit & Bo. It’s been announced that Bo would be leaving in February for his new zoo on a breeding recommendation. Good luck, Bo! We will miss you!
Hello, Berit. Let’s get this farewell PAWty started…..
Let the polar lovefest begin
Bo was on his back a LOT…….
Berit did an amazing job preparing 5 year old Bo for his move……
The past several months I’ve seen some beautiful interactions, but this final one was bittersweet…..
Berit & Bo were at it for quite some time….
Bo & his BIG paw…..yet, he’s very respectful of his Berit
Get him, Berit!!
BONK…..
30 min have passed…..I was wondering if Bo was ever getting off his back
Not yet…..looks like Berit is keeping him down
The pair sure had a lot to say…..
Looks like it’s time for Bo to get up…..
Oh my…..Bo’s up
More polar play…… Oh oh…..she’s going to get you, Bo!
Go, Berit……then they were on the move & ended up……
Well, Bo ended up in the empty grizzly pool. Sealed with a polar bear kiss.
Bo’s on his back again…..
What a beautiful way to bid farewell to Bo…..
Aww, Bo. We will miss you. Once Bo is announced by his new zoo I will share the info.

BO and BERIT: nice names.
Is BERIT BO’s mother or rather his ‘kind of fiancée?
I am sorry to ask those stupid questions but I have to admit that I am not familiar with these two beautiful examples of their kind.
In any case it was/is also a pleasure for me to see these two so much in action (love and/or power game!?).
Thanks for this report and the beautiful pictures of lovely huge polar bears. Wishing them all the best and also for you. Fingers are crossed that you will soon get or find news about their new home/s and total condition and that you will have the chance to pay them further visit/s.
Zwei, die sich soo gut verstehen, schade, dass Bo und Berit bald getrennte Wege gehen….🐻❄️🐻❄️👋
Dear Michelle, dear Mervi!
Thank you for this report and the lively and great pictures!
It’s more than a pity that this great couple, who get on so well together, are now separated. An older female bear and a young male bear often form a good and loving bond. I’m thinking, for example, of Vienna and Blizzard, Fiete and Zora and now Berit and Bo.
Perhaps the separation is not permanent and Bo will be allowed back when he has fulfilled his “duty”… I would certainly wish it for the two of them, especially as Berit is already 25 years old.
Hugs
Anke
I also find it very sad that they are being separated, especially because Berit is already 25 years old. She was a good grandma for Bo, as Anke lists other examples of these socialisations.
They could have waited a little longer with Bo’s breeding plans, but we don’t understand so many plans in this regard.
These photos show such a close friendship that it makes your heart ache for the separation – for both bears!
Sad greetings
Britta-Gudrun
Dear Michelle
It is a great pity that Bo will be leaving the zoo. I wish this playful bear all the best for his future.
The pictures of Berit and Bo are adorable ❤️
It is a pity that the two bears will be separated. But I can also see that it’s better for both of them. Bo is getting older and will soon be sexually mature. It seems logical that Berit will no longer be bred.
Hugs,
Anita
Dear Michelle!
I will miss Bo. He became one of our ‘house bears’ thanks to your excellent reports. However, I hope our sweet polar bear boy will be happy in his new home where ever it is.
Bo and ‘auntie’ Berit got along so well that it really is a pity they couldn’t stay together. I think the young companion kept Berit in a good mood and in a good shape. Hopefully the beautiful polar bear lady will stay happy and healthy even alone. I’m sure the keepers will to their best to keep her happy.
Thank you so much for these beautiful and even touching photos!
Hugs from Mervi
Thank you very much dear Mervi and Michelle.
Best wishes to Bo and Berit.
Dear Michelle & Mervi,
Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful photo’s of Berit & Bo.
Their wonderful friendship is plain for all to see.
