Easy and less easy living in YWP

17.6.2023 – Photos by Sheila and Philip Baker

Polar bears know it’s important to take things easy when the heat is on. That’s why our white fluffy friends in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park spend a lot of time doing nothing special or staying in the water.

Luka was taking a little walk ….

… but soon he decided to lie down and have a little nap.

Nobby was observing his surroundings.

The younger bears Indie and Yuma were focused on water games.

Tala doesn’t know what the expression ‘take it easy’ means. 🙂

She kept on playing with different toys …

Throwing things seems to be Tala’s favourite game for the time being.

She tried to make mama Flocke join her in the water.

Flocke was a bit cautious but soon even she wanted to be ‘caressed’ by the cool water.

Finally one of the bears (sorry, I don’t know which one) shows you how to keep your head cool. All you need is a worn-out plastic barrel – maybe designed by a polar bear …. 🙂

  1. Dear Sheila,Philip and Mervi
I hope to be back at YWP this month so it is good to see your photos..Mervi as ever knows how Polar Bears love to have fun.

  2. Dear Mervi,

the bears are doing it right and chilling out in the heat with water games, little naps and just enjoying the day.
That’s how it’s supposed to be and many people envy them for these relaxing
    actions.

Thank you Sheila for the refreshing photos and best wishes!

  3. What a fun day in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (YWP) and what gorgeous photos you brought to us.

Thanks to Sheila & Philip and to Mervi for letting us share the joy.

  4. Dear Sheila and Philip, dear Mervi!
The bears at YWP seem to be having a really great summer and are all looking well.
Flocke’s kids are all developing well and I especially like Tala’s playfulness and energy, although I have the greatest sympathy for all the bears who are taking it easy in the heat.
    Thanks for the great pictures.

    Hugs

  5. Dear Sheila and Philip

We humans could learn a lot from animals.
From your cool amount, humans can learn how to deal with the heat. Don’t do much, instead take a break every now and then and of course spend a lot of time in the cool water.
Thank you for the nice and very charming report on the YWP.
    Also thank you to Mervi!

    Hugs,
    Anita
