Cosy living in Yorkshire

2.2.2024 – Photos by Sheila and Philip

Although the weather has been cold it hasn’t been snowing in Yorkshire. However, the animals in the park are enjoying the cosy lazy snowless days anyway.

First there are sad news of the lioness Julie. She has recently been contending with progressive age-related illnesses and after careful consideration, the team made the difficult decision to put Julie to sleep.

Julie was a much loved individual and will be missed by all keepers and visitors at YWP

Carla and Crystal are the only two lionesses that remain of the original group of lions rescued from Romania in 2009.

They sure are beautiful. It’s easy to understand why the national ladies’ soccer team is called ‘The Lionesses’!

The Amur leopard baby Auckley is, of course, every visitor’s darling.

Flocke and Tala are still getting along just fine.

I wonder what caught their attention …

Tala found something in the Lake Polar Bear. Flocke looks very curious. Of course, the feathered fan club is there, too. 🙂

Tala had a shining white fur when this photo was taken.

If papa Raspi could see them now he would be proud as a peacock!

Hamish took a cold bath.

Doesn’t this big polar bear have a cute baby face?

Hamish invited Luka to join him.

Luka wasn’t in a swimming mood

My gorgeous Sisu still has the ‘logo’ in his back. 🙂

I don’t know which one of the bears is sleeping but Sisu is making sure nothing and nobody is disturbing his dreams.

After the cold bath Hamish wanted to take a trip to the Napland and Nobby wanted to be his ‘travelling companion’.

Even Sisu decided it was time for some day dreams.

  1. Dear Mervi, Sheila and Philip.
I am sorry to hear about Julie as I lost an old friend of the same name last year.
You have saved me some cold days at YWP with your lovely report. Thank you

  2. Terve! dear SISU – even you impressive big bear looks as lovely as a baby bear in the aboe photo. Thanks for posing so nicely – as all the other pretty animals did!

Each and any of them are individual beauties.

Most lovely of course is AUCKLEY – simply awwwwww . . .

Also FLOCKE and TALA are such a lovely mother-and-child-pair one is completely ‘Schock-verliebt’* ( * that’s a stupid buzzword in the German language – each self-respecting person thinks it to be necessary to be used – and normally most boring in the meantime. . . . but sometimes it fits anyhow 😉 )

Thanks for pics and words! Fun/pleasure to watch and read.

  3. Das sind tolle Fotos von der Bärenbande uns wie immer großartig von Dir, liebe Mervi, kommentiert.
Die Nachricht von Julie ist natürlich traurig.

Tank you dear Sheila and Philipp for the wonderful Fotos!

  4. Dear Sheila and Philipp

In the pictures I only see relaxed bears.
Hamish really does seem very powerful. He must be a huge guy.
Flocke looks good. I’m glad that Flake and Tala get along well.
And every time I see Nobby, I see his mom Giovanna in him.

Thank you for your nice report.
    Hugs,
    Anita

  6. Dear Sheila and dear Philip!
Thank you for the sunny pictures from the YWP!
Even if Julie’s death casts a shadow, she had a beautiful and long life there.
The polar bears are enjoying themselves and the lions and leopards also seem relaxed and content.
The small and extremely pretty Auckley is adorable and certainly a favourite among the visitors.
The photos already give a hint of spring and the last photo of the sleeping Sisu, as well as pictures of sleeping bears in general, give me a certain spring fatigue…

    Hugs
    Anke

  7. Dear Mervi, Sheila and Philip!
I am very sad, that Julie passed away.
Flocke is a beauty. I think Tala will be a beauty too 🙂
    Hugs
    Ludmila

May Julie rest in peace. I was sad to read about her passing.
