Animals in Ranua are ready for the Winter

🐻💤 Hibernation is just around the corner! Our brown bear Malla has already started reducing her food intake and is preparing for a long rest. Did you know that a bear’s hibernation can last up to six months? Malla can still be seen for a few weeks, so there’s still time to wish her sweet dreams!🌙

Malla is the only one of our animals that hibernates – the others stay active all year round!

Sweet Dreams!

A peaceful autumn day at the swan pond 🦢🍂

🍁 Meet the arctic foxes during autumn break! These small but clever animals are known for their lively nature and boldness – sometimes they might even grab a caretaker’s gloves if you’re not watching! 😄 Arctic foxes are skilled hunters in the wild and use their excellent sense of smell to track down prey. During the autumn break (daily until 26.11.), you can watch their activities at feeding times and learn more about this brave species. Welcome!

Taking it easy 🦦

🍁 The impressive antlers and rutting season make watching the wild forest reindeer especially fascinating in the fall!Come spend an animal-filled autumn day at Ranua: during autumn break (11.-26.11.-25), you can see wild forest reindeer and arctic foxes also during feeding times and guided tours.

✨ A new species has arrived at our park! ✨ The young Turkmenian kulans, Kajo and Loimu, arriving from Rostock Zoo, have already charmed their keepers with their swishing tails and playful personalities. 💚

🌏 The Turkmenian kulan is an endangered wild ass from Central Asia – there are estimated to be fewer than 1,500 individuals in the wild.
We are thrilled to participate in the conservation of this species as part of the EAZA European Ex-situ Programme (EEP), which aims to e.g. maintain a healthy population in human care and raise awareness about this amazing species. 🌿

🦉🍂 For many owl species, autumn means hearty meals. In the wild, owls prepare for winter by hunting more actively, and in our wildlife park, their appetite has increased too – they come to their food quickly. Autumn is the best time to see these magnificent owls active and lively!

🍂🍂
Working with animals is… well… rarely boring! 😄 Many things happen behind the scenes, and sometimes the animals get a little too excited to participate! 🦌✨

🌿 Species conservation isn’t just about protecting forests or animals – it’s also about raising people’s awareness, for example through photography. 📸 When people see animals and get them closer to their everyday lives through photos and stories, understanding and appreciation towards them grows, which increases the willingness to protect them.

💚 Are you already familiar with this awesome species – a wild relative of the domestic reindeer – that has returned to the wild in southern Finland? 🍂

PS. The works with the polar bears’ new enclosure should be finished now. I hope I can show you some photos or videos soon.
