2.2.2023 – Photos by Pat Waldron
This time I want to present the two giants in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park – Hamish and Luka. They certainly are a Dynamic Duo!
Hamish is a big boy but he has an inner child that loves to play with the toys they have in the enclosure.
The white barrel is a suitable toy for playing in the water.
Of course, a thorough quality control is a ‘must’. 🙂 I bet this barrel had changed it’s appearance after Hamish’ treatment. 🙂
Luka seems to be a dedicated follower of ‘Nobby fashion’ and keeps his fur very off-white. 🙂
Please, notice that I want to keep my nose white so the visitors will know I’m not a brown bear.
Oh bear, am I bored! What to do, what to do? I need some action!
Hurray, it’s feeding time again! I try to pinch Hamish’ meat but he’s a real challenge so I guess I must find my own food.
Afterwards it was time for show wrestling.
Or maybe the giants wanted to make up who’s the giant of the giants …. 🙂
I think this round ended in a draw.
No hard feelings, old chap! We are equally good wrestlers!
This is what I call a BEAR HUG! 🙂
Hamish thanks you for watching and promises to be back soon. He shows his tongue to you only because it makes him look so cute. 🙂

Dear Mervi,
dear Pat,
Hamish and Luka are truly two giants and don’t give away a point in their wrestling. Their brown outfit comes from the muddy ground in their enclosures. How great would they look if the match was in the snow!
Pat, your photo series at the wrestling is great, the only thing missing is the cloud of white breath coming out of their big nostrils.
Mervi, you have described the fight scenes again great and thank goodness we know that the two only playfully wrestle with each other, because really serious it is only when fighting for a female of which they are kept away, otherwise the peace in the boy group would be over quickly.
Thanks for the nice photo report and best regards!

Liebe Mervi,
liebe Pat,

Dear Pat and Mervi!
I too am very glad that the wrestling scenes are only playful exhibition matches and not meant to be serious! The subtitles to the pictures are very humorous and fit perfectly to the wrestling – “Krawalltüten” – “riot bags”. Thank you for the film-like show shown and described.
The white bucket has certainly seen better days, but will probably ensure that Hamish and the other boys don’t get bored for a while yet….
Fortunately, Hamish’s white nose proves that he can also be white as a polar bear when he wants to and weather conditions allow.
I hope there will still be snow in Yorkshire this winter!
Hugs

Dear Pat and Mervi
The playfighting between Polar Bears is an important part of their relationship.
In the wild the bears learn this from their mother and use it to select a mate and introduce themselves if they meet a strange bear.
It is especially important to learn how to disengage from the fight and chill out afterwards. The big enclosures at YWP allow this.
That’s a very lovely, funny, and informing publication. Love anything in it: the bears with their cheerful words, which were put charmingly in their mouthes, the gorgeous photos and especially THE RIGHT BIG BEAR HUG.
Thanks you!
Thank you very much dear Mervi and Pat.
Best wishes to Hamish, Luka, Nobby, Sisu, Tala, Yuma, Indy and Flocke.
Dear Pat and dear Mervi
Hamish and Luka really are giants.
Adorable giants.
And likewise, they are not only a dynamic duo. No, they are also very elegant.
The brown tones dress the two bears very well.
Their wrestling round only shows that they are having fun.
Thank you for the impressive impressions of Hamish and Luka.
Hugs,
Anita
