Zoo Mulhouse – Kara is still Sesi’s little baby

3.10.2022 – Photos by Veronika and Hans Odermatt

Veronika and Hans visited the Zoo Mulhouse on the 14th of September and as usual they brought gifts to the polar bears.

This time the treats were nice traffic cones.

This cone was rapidly reshaped. 🙂

Mama, wait for me ….

….. I need your back!

Are you happy now?

After a playing session Kara wanted to visit mama’s milk bar. She expressed herself loud and clear! 🙂

Of course, Kara got her will. It’s amazing how patient the polar bear mothers are with their kids. We’ve already seen that even Frimas in Nuenen still lets Elva visit her milk bar.

Oh bear, this girl is really thirsty!

Well, she is my baby and I can’t deny her anything!

Mother’s love has no limits …. and the milk bar has no date of expiration.

This time there are no photos of Anori but she and Kara are getting along better now.

Dear Veronika and Hans! Thank you so much for the nice photos. I’m sure the readers of this magazine are as happy of them as the polar bears were of your gifts. 🙂

  1. Dear Hans&Veronika (& Mervi)
Indeed its always amazing to see,
    how patient polarbear mothers are
    with their growing offspring. 🙂
    I hope, Anori&Kara are fine too ?
With a little luck, I will met
them in November, on my tour to
    the south – I am excited ! 🙂
    Greetings
    Chris 🙂

  2. Dear Veronika, Hans & Mervi,

this long nursing time of bear mothers is always very touching and besides the nutritional value, the cubs also need this when they are excited or insecure.
From therefore one can understand well, why at that time Knut sucked so devotedly at T. Dörfleins hands and later, when that was no longer possible even at his own paws extensively. Babies comfort and soothe themselves by sucking their thumbs and suck themselves to sleep.

Thank you for the beautiful photos and best regards!
    Britta-Gudrun

  3. Dear Veronika, dear Hans!
Thank you for the mother/child pictures from Mulhouse. The bears were certainly happy about your presents and are now regulating the traffic in a bear-like way… 😉
There are certainly reasons why some polar bear mothers reject their children earlier than others. But I find it remarkable and beautiful that there are still some mothers who maintain the bond with their children, mostly daughters, for a long time and nurse them beyond the “normal” period.
Since Britta-Gudrun’s post, I’ve had a picture of a thumb-sucking polar bear cub in my head – very sweet and, in memory of Knut, also sad…
Dear Mervi! Thank you for editing!

    Hugs
    Anke

  4. Dear Veronika and Hans,

I’m always fascinated when I see a red and white hat without seeing Bear with me. The little hat without the bear is big. The little hat with the bear is small. The comparison always shows me how huge the bears are.
Mothers are undoubtedly at the mercy of their children and cannot say NO!

Thank you for your enchanting report.
    Hugs,
    Anita

  5. Dear Veronika and Hans,
it is wonderful that you always bring the toys for polar bears.
Sesi still let her daughter drink her milk 🙂
    Hugs
    Ludmila
