Visit in the Edinburgh Zoo

11.10.2023 by Pat Waldron

Edinburgh Zoo, which opened to the public in 1913, lies on the south facing slopes of Corsterphine Hill. Set in 83 acres of land, the pathways zigzag throughout the area and offer outstanding views of the city.

Very welcoming! 🙂

There are too many species of animals to name but perhaps the most famous inhabitants are the two ‘leased’ Giant Pandas, Tian Tian & Yang Guang. They arrived at the zoo in 2011 but sadly, both will both be returning to China at the end of this year.

  1. Dear Pat!

Thank you so much for presenting this nice zoo to the readers of this magazine!

What a pity the giant pandas will be returned to China but they usually are only a loan.

The visitors in this zoo can enjoy a fantastic wiew over the city at the same time they admire the animals. Very special!

Your photos are excellent as always and it’s a mission impossible to pick one favourite. However, I can mention the cute Chinese goral, Linne’s two-toed Sloth, the koalas and the Malayan sun bear …. well, I love all the animals!

    Hugs from Mervi

  2. Dear Pat,

the spectacular view at the giraffes is great and the feeding aid at the sloths is clever. I use these gripping tongs when something has fallen on the floor….

Pandas are always a highlight of course, unfortunately only for a short time!
Your photos are fantastic and the monkey population is diverse. I particularly like the three by the motto: hear nothing, see nothing and say nothing.

I particularly like the Malayan bears and the penguins even go swimming well dressed in tails!

    Many thanks and best regards
    Britta-Gudrun

  3. Dear Pat!
Thank you for the interesting report. The zoo looks very nice. I love the sun bears mostly.

  4. Dear Pat!
Thank you for the great pictures from Edinburgh Zoo. The zoo seems to suit this attractive city – what a magnificent view over the city – and has many interesting and lovely inhabitants. As Mervi wrote, it is impossible to name a favourite, they have all captured my heart. One photo is always more beautiful than the other.
I really like giant pandas – I loved Bao Bao! – But this rental circus should really be avoided…

    Hugs
    Anke

  5. Dear Pat

Thank you for this fine zoo report from Edinburgh.
I don’t know this zoo and it is all the more interesting to visit it with your pictures and words.
There are really many different animals in the zoo. But it is also very very big. Over 80 hectares! There’s room for lots and lots of animals.

The view down to the city by the giraffes is really great!!!

    Hugs,
    Anita
