On Tuesday, April 13, one of the oldest polar bears in the world died at the Leningrad Zoo. Uslada was 33 years old. This was reported by the press release from the zoo today.
The photos of Uslada and her daughter Zabava were taken in 2014.
On average, polar bears live in zoos for 25 years, but Uslada has been there for almost 28 years. She was born in the Kazan Zoological Botanical Garden and at the age of 6 she was brought to St. Petersburg.
Uslada was an amazingly loving mother – she gave birth to 16 cubs. Watching how the bear touchingly and tenderly took care of the babies, it was difficult to imagine that in fact she was a formidable predator.

Uslada (19.11.1987) came to the Zoo Leningrad from the Zoo Kasan in 1993. Menschikov came from the Island “Novaya Zemlya” in 1989. He died in October 2016
