Hello again! This time I have written my ‘newsletter’ in both Finnish and English. As you already know I’m a world famous polar bear boy!
This time I have something special to tell you – but first I have to take my morning bath!
Terve taas! Tällä kertaa voitte lukea ‘uutiskirjeeni’ sekä suomeksi että englanniksi. Niinkuin ehkä tiedätte olen maailmankuulu jääkarhupoika!
Tällä kertaa minulla onkin paljon kertomista teille mutta ensin on aamu-uinnin aika!
– Mama, the keepers say I will soon weigh 100 kilos! They believe I’m going to be as big as papa Manasse and my big brother Ranzo – or maybe even bigger! Oh bear – I’m going to be a giant!
– Äiti, hoitajat sanoivat että painan pian 100 kiloa! He ovat varmoja että minusta tulee yhtä iso kuin pappa Manassesta ja isoveli Ranzosta – tai ehkä vieläkin isompi. Voihan karhu – minusta tulee jättiläinen!
– Calm down! You are already quite a big boy but you’re still mama’s baby. Let me check if you’ve cleaned your teeth and washed your face – even behind the ears.
– Rauhoitu nyt! Kyllä sinä olet jo nyt melkoinen jässikkä mutta silti vielä äidin pikkuinen. Katsotaanpa oletko harjannut hampaasi ja pessyt naamasi – ja myös korvantaustat.
– I have done my morning toilette but I can’t understand why I have to wash myself because I’m going to swim in the water almost all day! Just look how white and shiny my fur is. Sometimes you make too much fuss of this cleaning thing!
– Dear boy, this weekend is very special here in Ranua. The annual Cloudberry Market will take Place and it means we’re going to have lots of visitors in our park. Even Moomintroll and Snufkin will come!
– Putsattu on vaikka en ymmärrä miksi minun pitää peseytyä kun uin kuitenkin vedessä melkein koko päivän. Katso nyt kuinka hieno ja valkoinen turkkini on. Joskus sinä hössötät aivan liikaa!
– Nalle rakas, tänä viikonloppuna Ranualla on hillamarkkinat mikä tietää sitä että myös meillä tulee olemaan paljon vierailijoita. Jopa Muumipeikko ja Nuuska Muikkunenkin tulevat!
– OK, I think I’m white enough and my belly is really round so I must be perfect. Let’s see how your fur looks, mama.
– OK, turkkini on valkoinen ja massuni melko pyöreä niin että minä olen täydellinen! No niin, äiskä – katsotaanpa miltä sinun turkkisi näyttää.
– Your hairdo needs a little extra touch of my paw! Now it looks great. I’m sure you’ll be chosen as Miss Cloudberry.
– You funny rascal! I’m not going to participate – I must give the other girls a chance.
– Kyllä sinun kampauksesi kaipaa hieman tassuapua! No, nyt näyttää niin upealta että sinut varmasti valitaan vuoden hillatytöksi!
– Voi sinua hassua poikaa! En minä aio osallistua – pitäähän muillekin neitosille antaa mahdollisuus!.
– Now we’re ready to meet our visitors. I’m sure we will charm them all! Even Marko will be delighted to see us so presentable and photogenique!
– Nyt olemme valmiit kohtaamaan ja hurmaamaan vierailijamme. Markokin ilahtuu kun näkee meidät näin edustavina ja valokuvauksellisina!
– Mama, what is this Cloudberry Market? Are we going?
– This Market is arranged every year when the cloudberries are ripe to be picked. People buy and sell them on the market. A lot of things are happening in Ranua during the weekend – dance, music and all kinds of funny things. No, dear boy, we’re not going because for some reason people might get scared if they saw us there.
– These two legged creatures are quite funny ….. Well, I can always imagine I’ve been picking cloudberries and filled a king size bucket with them!
– Äiti, mitä ne hillamarkkinat oikein ovat? Mennäänkö mekin?
– Nämä markkinat järjestetään joka vuosi kun hillat ovat kypsyneet. Niitä myydään ja ostetaan torilla ja Ranualla on monenlaisia tapahtumia – tanssia, musiikkia ja kaikkea kivaa. Ikävä kyllä me emme voi mennä hillatorille. Jostain syystä ihmiset taitaisivat pelästyä jos näkisivät meidät siellä.
– Nuo kaksijalkaiset ovat hieman omituisia …. No, minähän voin aina kuvitella että olen poiminut jättiläisämpärin täyteen hilloja!
Our keepers make sure the water is always clean and clear in our pool but sometimes mama gives them a helping paw – especially now that there will be an invasion of visitors!
Hoitajamme pitävät aina veden altaassamme puhtaana ja kirkkaana mutta silloin tällöin äiti ojentaa heille auttavan tassunsa – varsinkin nyt kun tänne on tulossa paljon vieraita!

Onkohan täällä lisää vihreää?
I’m sure mama was thinking how lucky we are living here in Ranua. We have everything we need – our food is served punctually, we have lots of enrichment and toys, we have clean water, caring keepers and we even got snow in July!
There’s one thing I wonder …. When people are doing fine they say they’re leading a ‘dog’s life’. I think they could say a ‘bear’s life’ instead!!
Olen varma että äiti mietti kuinka hyvä meidän on olla täällä Ranualla. Meillä on kaikkea mitä tarvitsemme – ruoka tarjoillaan aina ajallaan, meillä on jatkuvasti uusia virikkeitä ja leluja, meillä on puhdasta vettä, huolehtivaiset hoitajat – ja meille tuotiin jopa lunta heinäkuussa!
Yhtä asiaa vain en ymmärrä …. Kun ihmisillä on oikein hyvä olla he sanovat että heillä on kissanpäivät. Minusta voisi mieluummin sanoa karhunpäivät!!
Mama brought the green thing to the shore so even I could take a closer look at it.
Äiti toi viherkasvin rannalle niin että minäkin sain tutkia sitä.
