We have been planning a visit to Copenhagen for months but there was always something that put stop to our plans – a sick cat or a heavy rain. Even the Old Man Winter decided to pay a late visit to us. However, on the 20th of April we could finally take the train to ‘Dronningens by’.
First we had to renew my passport at the Finnish Embassy. Everything went very smoothly so we could continue our Danish odyssee to the zoo. 🙂
We could enter the zoo earlier than we had counted on and after a refreshing soft drink we hurried to the polar bears.
Immediately we caught sight of a cappuccino coloured Lynn! What a good looking bear girl she is! As you may remember Lynn lived in Vienna together with Ranzo but since these two are closely related (Vienna and Churchill were grandparents to both) they had to be separated.
This was the first time we saw Nord ‘live’, too. The other female polar bear Nöel is rather tired of Nord’s intimate invitations so she can take a break now that Lynn is ‘sharing’ the big Russian guy. 🙂
The bears were on the move all the time. It was obvious that Nord wanted to make closer acquintance with his new girlfriend but Lynn wasn’t as enthusiastic …. or maybe she just didn’t want to be an easy catch ….
They were running around in the enclosure – Lynn first and Nord following her. Occasionally they stopped for some seconds.
We could witness some short tender moments …..
….. but then we suddenly saw – and heard – a big splash and the bears disappeared.
We followed them to the ‘tunnel’ where it’s possible to see them on both sides and even above us.
With only the glass wall separating us we could clearly see what a gigantic polar bear Nord is! I strongly advice you NOT to try shake paws with him!! 🙂
After admiring the swimming bears we made a little tour in the zoo and met many other sweet animals. More of that in a separate report later.
When we returned to the polar bears we found an empty enclosure. Well, as you already know Patience is my middle name so we decided to wait. Our patience was rewarded quite soon when Lynn and Nord suddenly appeared.
Lynn jumped up from the water but Nord stayed in the wet element. Maybe he hoped Lynn would join him again.
Oh no, she just passed him and greeted us with a smile.
Nord looked so disappointed. He put on a sad face – maybe that would soften Lynn’s heart.
Was he dreaming?
Like an elusive furry butterfly Lynn floated past Nord again. The swimming tour had made her fur white again.
Lynn kept walking about while Nord was waiting in the water.
Oh bear, she didn’t stop. Well, I guess I just have to give up ….
Even Nord came up and like a faithful dog he started following Lynn again.
Nord clearly wanted some tralalaa but Lynn wasn’t interested. She let Nord come close …. ….. but that was all. Nord seems to be a very kind gentlebear who accepts ‘no’ for an answer. There was no aggressivity and no growling from neither Nord nor Lynn.
To be continued ….
