5.2.2026 – Photos by Frans van der Kolff
My friend Anke posted some nice photos of Knut playing with a crazy egg. Because there was snow when Frans took the photos I thought they would be suitable for February memories.
I guess a visitor brought the toy to Knut.
No doubt he was very happy about it.
Oops! Where did it go ….
I caught it.
How elegantly he hold his crazy egg. He was so charming and I’m sure he knew all the visitors loved him.
He was so lovable!

Thank you for republishing the gorgeous photos of Knut by Frans! They show impressively how loveabale and charming our bearboy was. One could just fell head over heels in love with him!
If I remember correctly, that Crazy Egg was a present from Birgit from Aurich(?) for his fourth birthday. Snow and ice were another great gift for his last birthday… Bittersweet memories!

Wer könnte je die Geschichte mit Knuts crazy Egg vergessen, die France so wunderbar fotografiert hat? Wirklich eine bittersüsse und doch so zauberhafte Erinnerung an den glücklichen Bären im Schnee. Wie alle Spielsachen oder in seinem Gehege gefundene
Objekte konnte Knut stundenlang und selbstvergessen damit in allen Variationen spielen und hantieren und wir konnten uns nicht satt daran sehen!

Dear Mervi Thank you for these pictures of Knut in the snow. He was not often white so these are interesting shots. The crazy egg was an early attempt at enrichment. Today zoos realise that such toys are vital to keep Polars occupied and happy. I wonder what Knut would have done with the kayaks and lakes in the UK parks. Flocke has been with us for a while now.
