Jimmy’s Farm in August

4.9.2025 by Pat Waldron

My first visit (19th of August) to Jimmy’s Farm for 3 months and I had a wonderful day. All the girls are looking great.

Tala has grown quite a lot since my last visit and is of a similar size to Flocke now.

Surprisingly, Flocke was far more active  than Tala.

Our Flocke is as beautiful as she always is!

Her daughter Tala is also a real beauty.

Tala was walking peacefully on the large fields.

Even the ‘sea side’ offers great surroundings for walkabouts.  She didn’t jump in this time.

Hello Pat! Great to meet you here again!

Tala wanted to be close to Hope on one occasion but Hope didn’t want to know……she kept moving away. I know there is interaction between the bears but I have never really witnessed it.

Hope and Tala – Tala was the whiter bear this time.

Here comes Hope!

She’s wearing a brownish fur this day …. 🙂

hope1

She’s so fluffy and roundish – and almost white, too! 🙂

This ‘crooked tree’ seems to be a favourite spot for all the ladies.

Hope hade some nice laps in the ‘lake’.

Ewa still wants to distance herself from them both and tolerates Hope being close by.

Sadly, Ewa still seems to be spending a lot of time looking over her shoulder and avoiding Flocke & Tala whenever they came too close. However, she was quite happy close to Hope.

Ewa, with her two upturned claws, keeping an eye on the other bears. Where are they?

ewa2

She was really lucky finding a new home where she as much space as she had in Orsa.

As for Jimmy’s itself, the area near the brown bears is being redeveloped, new enclosures are being built to house new species of animals. After chatting with someone after the park closed, I think there are quite exciting times are ahead!

Are you wondering why there are not so many photos of Flocke? There will be a Flocke Special soon in this magazine.

  1. Because Flocke still has such a close connection with Tala, it is difficult for Ewa to interact with this duo, which is a real shame. Perhaps another female bear in this shared accommodation would be the solution?

Thank you, Pat, for the detailed report, and I am also very much looking forward to the Flocke Special!
    Best regards,
    Britta-Gudrun

  2. Dear Pat!
Thank you for the wonderful pictures. Flocke and her daughters look great. It is very good that Ewa does not avoid Hope. Maybe they will be friends soon.

  3. Dear Pat!
It’s a pity that this arrangement isn’t working out so well and that Ewa is still afraid of Flocke and Tala. Hope seems to be a little more approachable, and maybe something like a friendship will develop, but as long as Flocke and Tala are so close, I’m sceptical. But apart from that, the ladies look great! Thank you for your update!

    Hugs
    Anke

    • Dear Pat and Mervi
Thank you for the lovely pictures of the girls at Jimmy’s Farm.
The close bond between Flocke and Tala reminds me of Tosca and Nancy. Ewa and Hope may get along better.
Unlike males who playfight in the wild female Polars are wary of other bears. In all three zoos with girl groups (Munich Emmen and Jimmys) this seems to be true. But at least the hormones dont get them down.
