New polar bear babies are expected in Tallinn Zoo. If all goes well, Friida the female bear will give birth at the end of this year.
Tallinn Zoo is expecting polar bear cubs. The female polar bear Friida is reluctant to let people near her at the moment, so her pregnancy has not been confirmed, but all the changes in Friida’s behaviour and condition suggest that polar bear cubs may soon be seen.
“She’s put on weight, is nesting indoors and the keepers who have been with her for a long time say yes. So we wait and hope,” said Darja Zubareva, a wildlife education specialist at Tallinn Zoo. Friida is an experienced mother. In the past, she has given birth to two healthy polar bear cubs, but apart from that, Friida has lost her cubs twice in the last few years due to health problems. According to the keepers, the mother bear has survived the loss of her cubs with great difficulty, and even later still searches the valleys for them.
“We did the autopsy as well as Friida’s health examinations, Friida is healthy, there is nothing wrong with her, she is already old, 20 years old, but that doesn’t mean she can’t still successfully bear cubs,” said Zubareva.

What a nice and kind face he has!
It’s amazing how plump a bear gets during pregnancy, even though she only has tiny babies the size of guinea pigs.
But in the wild, of course, she has to live off her fat reserves for a very long time.

Well, I wish Friida, Raspi and Tallinn Zoo all the best for a sweet surprise (or 2 or 3????). But then, they can better stop trying to breed with her because of her age adn because of Raspi’s fertility. This guy definitely knows what and how to do it. And he is looking gorgeous.
