22.1.2023 – Photos by Pat Waldron
These photos were taken on Boxing Day when all the bears were on great form. Indie and Hamish were playing together for what seemed an eternity.
Indie was waiting for a play mate ….
…. and soon Hamish was swimming towards him. Hamish was the ‘angry bird’ compared to the other big boys but now he seems to be a real gentlebear. 🙂
Hamish (in water) and Indie
Hello, Hamish old chap! I’ve been exercising a lot and I would like to show you what I’ve learnt from you.
I want to show how I throw this white barrel and then dive after it.
Here we go! An elegant push with my paw …
It flies like it had wings don’t you agree?
And now after it!
Look how I even I can fly!
Oh my, you’ve certainly learnt a lot! I’m very impressed. I give you 12 points out of 12!
Where did my student go? Well, he will turn up soon so I can share a some words of wisdom with him.
Dear Indie, I want to sing you a song I heard from Baloo – a character in the Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling.
Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Are Mother Nature’s recipes
That bring the bare necessities of life
Wherever I wander
Wherever I roam
I couldn’t be fonder of my big home
Hamish (right) decided he was also hungry and very very slowly muscled in on Indie’s dinner. At first Indie resisted but eventually he backed down to a much bigger Hamish!
OK, you can have it – but very soon I’ll be as big as you and then …. you just wait and see!
Luckily there was enough food for both Hamish and Indie so no hard feelings! 🙂
Indie was looking up at Pat having moved on to the next chunk of meat! I think he was saying ‘I hope you were impressed by my throwing and diving skils’.

Dear Indie
Of course I am impressed with your throwing, jumping and diving skills. But you have also found a very good mentor in Hamish.
Thank you dear Pat, for your wonderful pictures.
I’m glad the boys are doing well and all getting on well together.
Dear Mervi, thank you for editing and the funny lines to the pictures.
Hugs,
Anita
DearPat and Mervi
Thank you for a treat from Boxing Day. It must be very special to be able to go there on that day.
Indie and Yuma have certainly changed the way in which Project Polar works. Indie is nearly as big as Hamish and has much more energy.
That was a nice interaction between INDIE and HAMISH to observe, enhanced by Pat Waldron’s photographs (caught i the act!) and Mervi’s entertaining words. . . . Thanks for uplifting eyes and mood
by briging the above to us.
Hello you two bears!
Indie, you learned a lot from Hamish and now you don’t let him take the butter off your bread so easily, do you?
Hamish, you were a good teacher and your throwing technique Indie learned perfectly from you.
Keep on getting along so well and stay healthy!
Dear Mervi and Pat!
Thanks for the great photos and the exhilarating text.
Thank you very much dear Mervi and Pat.
Best wishes to Hamish and Indy.
Dear Pat and dear Mervi!
It’s just great to see these interactions between the bears. The young ones can learn a lot from the adults and have fun too. The photos are great and very vivid. I especially like the series with the white container, the jump behind it and Mervi’s captions to it. Thank you very much!
The last photo and the look Indie is giving Pat are simply adorable and to fall in love with!
Hugs
Anke
