Today we celebrate the Internationa Women’s Day. I think all polar bear females are real iron ladies taking care of their off spring even under the hardest circumstances.
Even the polar bear mothers in the zoos and animal parks do a great job raising their kids. I want to present one of them – our beloved Flocke who has raised four cubs.
We fell in love with this polar bear already when she was a hand raised cub in Nuremberg. Now she’s a most beautiful and charming adult.
There were doubts if Flocke could be a good mother but she proved to be perfect for raising a baby bear. Her first born was Hope that after having spent a few years in Orsa came to Jimmy’s Farm. There the mother and the daughter were meeting again. Unexpectedly Hope died there at a young age.
Flocke has even given birth to triplets Tala, Indiana and Yuma.
It’s unusual that all three cubs survive but Flocke’s did!
Now Indiana and Yuma are living in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and are doing fine.
Tala lives at Jimmy’s Farm together with mama Flocke and auntie Ewa.
Flocke and Tala have a special bond and seem to be very devoted to each other.
Our beloved Flocke proved that even a hand raised polar bear female can become a perfect mama bear!
With this little article I want to celebrate all women – no matter if they are two legged or four legged, with or without children!

A wonderful story of a miracle cub who survived and went on to be a great mother.
Flocke, a most beloved bear. She and Raspi were a supercouple.

Dear Mervi!
This is a wonderful story and the pictures are great. Flocke Was very proud of Hope, then she was a clever mother with 3 cubs.
I wish her many good years in Great Britan.

Dear Mervi!
The fragile little polar bear cub has grown into a magnificent and beautiful big bear lady who has successfully raised four children, including triplets. She has shown everyone who is generally opposed to hand-rearing…
A beautiful symbol for Women’s Day, not because she became a mother, but because she showed, against all odds and despite all the bad conditions, that you can not only survive, but even have a good life.
The untimely death of her daughter Hope was and remains a great tragedy.
Hugs
Anke
Liebe Mervi,
