Although Polar Bears are my great passion, there are many beautiful animals to see at Yorkshire Wildlife Park (YWP). The Okapis certainly are. The warmer weather brought them out to graze together.
The longer necked giraffes were also enjoying the weather and a tasty snack.
Other animals also prefer the warm weather. YWP has two black rhinos. Jasper was born in 2015 in the Czech Republic while Makibo was born in 2019 in Magdeburg. There are hopes that a baby rhino may come.
I was fortunate to be given a room in the hotel overlooking the back of the Maned Wolf enclosure . In the early morning I was able to watch the family hunting small rodents in the long grass as they would in their native Argentina. In the evening there was much playing in and around their well hidden den.
They were too far away to photo on my phone but here are some shots at the front of their enclosure.
Flocke’s boys, Indy and Yuma continue to grow. Indy is the bigger of the two. Because Sisu and Nobby both want to “get close” to Indy, he was in the third enclosure with his brother.
Finally some rather distant phone photo shots of Hamish and Luka in the water. The two get along despite being very different characters. Luka is much calmer and likes to chill whereas Hamish is always keen for rough and tumble.

. . . Thank you.
How wonderful you’ve got a hotel-room overlooking the back of the Maned Wolf enclosure!
Thank you dear Ralph for your report from the YWP.
Having the hotel room with a view of the maned wolves is certainly a fine view, especially as there are also offspring.
I always enjoy your descriptions. It gives me a good idea of how the bears are doing, who is who and who likes to do what.
Thank you.
Hugs,
Anita
Thank you very much dear Ralph.
Best wishes to all the animals in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Happy birthday dear Mervi.
Dear Ralph!
Thank you for your latest report from the YWP. I didn’t know there are so many other animals there because, as you know, your main interest has always been the polar bears. Thank you for introducing us to some others! Nevertheless, the polar bears were certainly not neglected during your visit…
It was great that your hotel room was facing the maned wolf facility, so you could see them from your window early in the morning and in the evening when they were playing.
Fingers crossed that the black rhinos Jasper and Makibo will become parents soon.
All the best, hugs
Anke
Dear Ralph!
Thank you for the showing us more animals from YWP.
It is great that the zoo has enough place to separate the polar bears.
Hugs

Dear Ralph!
What a nice medlee! The okapis, the rhinos and the giraffes seem to have very good enclosures – just like all the animals in YWP.
Wow! What a wiew from your hotel window! I love these maned wolves but I’ve never seen them ‘live’.
Yuma and Indiana sure are big boys now. Papa Raspi would be proud if he could see them now.
Luka and Hamish get along well despite their different characteristics – or maybe because of them. Who knows … 🙂
Thank you so much for this wonderful article!
Hugs from Mervi
Dear Ralph,
like sitting in the theatre in the front row is such a great view from the hotel window into the Wildpark! You can hardly get more zoo than that.
Besides the polar bears, the Wildpark is home to many other beautiful animals, of which I especially love the maned wolf.
Thank you for your report and best regards!
