Some news from the Netherlands

In Diergaarde Blijdorp (Rotterdam Zoo) Wolodja and Nivi have enjoyed the sunny Spring weather and they’ve spent hours wet wrestling.

My mouth is bigger than yours!

Why don’t we just agree that our mouths are equally big?

OK! Let’s start wrestling instead of arguing.

Are you smelling my new after shave?

You don’t need any after shave – you smell polar bearishly good!

Now it’s splashing time! Come on, let’s make the water foam!

11th of April – Finally our fourth gelada mother also has a baby of her own. Last year, her baby didn’t survive.

Dear baby, you’re so welcome!

The gender of the baby is still unknown. The mother is Helena and the father is again Jabba. Geladas are about 5 to 6 months pregnant. The keepers were already expecting a little one. Indeed, during pregnancy, the breast and neck turn redder, the blisters decrease and neck rings develop.

Geladas are found in the wild on the high plains of Ethiopia. Their habitat is under increasing pressure, due to increasing human population and subsequent agriculture.

15th of March – Hooray! After a successful mating and a gestation period of about three months, two clouded leopards have been born! The cubs will remain safely in the nest box in the indoor enclosure for the next few weeks. Keep an eye on our social channels to follow the development of the cubs.

11th of April – Peekaboo! With a bit of luck, the visitors may have been able to spot the young clouded leopards in the indoor enclosure.

The two cubs are now about six weeks old and already quite curious They spend their time mostly in the nest box, but occasionally poke their noses through the hole.

I wonder what the proud mama wants to say?

Great to see Volodya and Nivi enjoying the water.
YWP also has the Celada monkeys. Maybe Pat or Phil and Sheila can let you have pics. They are too small for me to get on my phone.

  4. Dear Nel and dear Mervi!
These are very beautiful pictures from Rotterdam. Nivi and Wolodja seem to have a lot of fun together and it’s great that they get along so well!
The cute baby animals with the djeladas and leopards are touching and certainly very welcome. I am happy for the mother jelada that she has a new baby after losing the last one and wish mother and child only the very best.
Thank you for showing and for the appropriate captions!

    Hugs
