Heart thieves in Yorkshire

23.2.2023 – Photos by Pat Waldron

The polar bears in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park have already stolen our hearts but I’m sure the sweeties in this article will do it, too. Oh bear, what cute heart thieves they all are. 🙂

This is the Amur leopard male Drake.

Drake will soon be introduced to eleven years old Kristen who recently arrived in YWP. (When I publish this article they may have been already introduced)

I was told there’s a handsome male waiting for me. Where is he hiding?

Their introduction is part of a global project to protect this critically endangered species whose numbers have dwindled to less than 100 in the wild.

Many of you have probably seen photos of the five maned wolf puppies – a girl and four boys.

The boys have already names: Ricardo, Kit, Alpha and River. The baby girl will be called either Autumn or Phoenix. There’s a voting going on or maybe the girl has already a name when I publish this article.

Dear Pat! Thank you so much for presenting these lovelies to me and the readers of this magazine! I fell in love with them all! They sure stole my heart but I don’t mind this kind of thieves at all. 🙂

  3. Dear Pat, dear Mervi!
Thank you for these heart-warming pictures from Yorkshire!
Heartbreakers, whether for their cuteness or their beauty, are all the animals shown here and I liked them all. I find the little maned wolves especially cute, they have quite an adorable expression on their faces.

    Hugs
    Anke

  4. Thank you Mervi for highlighting some of our other residents here at the YWP in Yorkshire.
The ‘Heart Thieves’ as you name them, are all doing amazingly well and the babies are growing up fast…..especially the Maned Wolf cubs!
