Once upon a time there was snow ….

14.1.2023 by Mervi, Photos by Marko Junttila

Once upon a time there used to be snow during the Winter time in Lapland. We could say the same of many parts in Europe. Is this what we want the future generations to read? Do we want them to wonder why nothing was done to prevent the snowless Winters?

It’s time to start respecting Mother Nature NOW – tomorrow is too late! The climate change is a fact – not fiction!

Will these fantastic photos be history soon? I’m praying that the answer is ‘no’!

Walking and skiing in the snowy woods are balm to anybody’s soul! This is how the Winter looks on moon lit evening.

We can only hope this species can continue to enjoy the Winter delights.

The Winter is a tough time both for both humans and animals but they are used to this season and know how to deal with it.

  1. Mervi I am afraid it is already too late. China and the United States could single handedly set the rest of the world on track to reducing global warming. That they do not do so means there is not much the rest of the world can do.
Sadly the politicians in Washington and Beijing show no signs of doing what is needed.

  2. Dear Mervi
    Dear Marko

The pictures will soon be unique.
I don’t believe that the decisive forces will manage to stop climate change.
No, they are always busy with much more important things.
They have to discuss and discuss and form one working group and another and so it remains undone.
The earth and we who live on it have indulgence.
Very sad. Shame on us. Our earth is so beautiful, so unique and we, what are we doing.
    Nothing.
A topic that makes me angry!!!
I think yes, we are all challenged. For example, I do NOT drive a car for environmental reasons.

Thank you for the wonderful pictures, dear Mirka and your appeal, dear Mervi

    Hugs,
    Anita

  3. Dear Marko and dear Mervi!
These are dreamlike pictures of beautiful, almost fairytale-like snowy landscapes and some of the animals that live in them. Thank you so much for them!
Hopefully future generations will still be able to experience snow and ice and such landscapes in winter.
I am sceptical, but hope dies last…

    Hugs
    Anke

  4. Thank you for both the wonderful photo’s and the thought provoking narrative that accompanies them. It is so sad to think that our future generations will have to resort to viewing photographs to see what has been lost because the world didn’t care enough…..particularly the ‘powers that be’ who could have made a difference!

  5. Dear Marco
    dear Mervi,

these are dreamlike photos and yes, it is to be feared that they will be history one day, as your texts already describe it.
Already since my childhood, the long and deep snowy winter landscapes in my homeland have changed significantly, respectively extremely shortened. And all warnings of the Club of Rome in the 60’s were thrown to the wind. Like Ralph, I fear that there will be no reversal, even though all nations have been experiencing the consequences of global warming firsthand for more than two decades.

These are sad prospects. And just the current energy shortage has shown us how fast all good intentions in Germany alone were destroyed, in order to have still warm with the demonized coal.
In the past, this was called “Preach water and drink wine”…..
