11.1.2023 – Photos by Veronika and Hans Odermatt
It’s been snowing a lot in USA and Canada but in Europe many ski resorts are suffering from the lack of snow. Luckily there was a little snow in Basel when Veronika and Hans visited the zoo. The animals were, of course, delighted by the snow and the visitors!
The big cats were all outside wondering what had happened during the night. The world look so much brighter – at least in the zoo!
The lynx looked surprised
This big cat was exploring the enclosure.
The tiger had chosen a spot without snow.
The snow leopard must be happy – after all she/he is a SNOWleopard! 🙂
Why is my kingdom white all of a sudden asked the King.
Hmm, it doesn’t taste anything but it’s good anyway.
The Queen prefered to stay in her castle.
Even the animals in the Zoo Mulhouse have had an opportunity to say ‘hello’ to a real Winter. Especially the polar bears Sesi, Anori and Kara are happy about the luxorious life in snow. 🙂
Anori and Kara have become good friends and love to play together.
Anori’s fur doesn’t look so good but many polar bears in the zoos have this kind of fur problem in the Winter time. Usually it’s nothing alarming.
Aunt Anori, come on and play with me again!
OK, but first we must examine what this stuff is.

der erste Schnee ist ist immer eine große Überraschung für die Tiere im Zoo, auch wenn Schnee nicht zu ihrem normalen Lebensumfeld gehört. Gerade dann ist ihre Reaktion umso erstaunter über den weißen Stoff.
Die wirklichen Bewohner der Eiswelten erleben diese Überraschung leider nur noch viel zu selten und das macht traurig.

It is so nice to see how Anori is getting along in her new home in Mulhouse. Kara is a good playmate for her. I know they were happy to get a little snow. Thanks for the super photos.

Auch die großen Katzen sind im Schnee ausgesprochen fotogen!
Schade, dass Anori Fellprobleme hat, aber es ist toll, dass sie inzwischen Anschluss gefunden hat.

Ich mag Eure verschneiten Bilder!
Für die Tiere ist der Schnee eine schöne Überraschung.
Ich finde es toll, dass Anori mit Kara befreundet ist und sie zusammen spielen, forschen und Unsinn planen (ß)
Ja, dass es nun so gut wie gar keinen Schnee mehr gibt, daran werden wir Menschen und gewöhnen müssen.
