Frosty the Snowman

29.12.2024 by Mervi

I was lucky to spend my childhood in north of Finland where the Winters always were white with lots of snow. I remember how fun it was to ‘design’ a snowman. Of course, the white friend melted away in the Spring but the good thing was that I knew he would come back next Winter!

There’s no snow in many parts of the world for the time being so I want to offer you  some snow in my collages with snowmen and polar bears to the tunes of ‘Frosty the Snowman’. Come on, let’s sing together! Maybe we can soon see some snow flakes dancing in air …. 🙂

Frosty the Snowman – By Steve “Jack” Rollins och Steve Nelson

Frosty the Snowman, was a jolly happy soul,
With a corn cob pipe and a button nose, and two eyes made of coal.

Frosty the Snowman, is a fairytale, they say.
He was made of snow, but the children know he came to life one day.

There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found,

For when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around!

Oh, Frosty, the Snowman, was alive as he could be;
and the children say he could laugh and play,
just the same as you and me.

Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
look at Frosty go.

Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
over the hills of snow.

Frosty the Snowman, knew the sun was hot that day,
so he said, “Let’s run, and we’ll have some fun now, before I melt away.”

Down to the village, with a broomstick in his hand,
Running here and there, all around the square,
sayin’, “Catch me if you can.”

He led them down the streets of town, right to the traffic cop;

and only paused a moment, when he heard him holler, “Stop!”

For Frosty, the Snowman, had to hurry on his way,

But he waved goodbye, sayin’ “Don’t cry, I’ll be back again some day.”

  1. Dear Mervi and Vesa
Thank you for this wonderful Finnish tradition of building a snow man. Polar Bears in your collages are lovely.

  3. Dear Mervi!
Thank you for these cute collages with snowman Frosty and several polar bears.
I wish every polar bear and all the animals of the North as much snow as they want and hope for them and for every homesick Finnish person and all northerners in general for a winter worthy of the name…
My enthusiasm for this time of year, when it is as gloomy and cold and wet as it is at the moment, is still very limited… My feet, for example, don’t get warm at all at the moment.
Unfortunately, there are hardly any winter days in our latitudes that I like: with dry cold, snow glistening in the sun and a deep blue sky above. A winter day like that would thrill me too. Then I would also enjoy building a snowman.

    Hugs
    Anke

  4. Dear Mervi,

I really like the Snowman’s song and your collages for the lyrics are excellent!

I can understand your winter homesickness very well.
Although I don’t recognise all the bears straight away, they are our favourites from many years with you on the Bären Blogg.

    Best wishes and many thanks!
    Britta-Gudrun
