Friendship without borders in Yorkshire

15.12.2022 – Photos by Sheila and Philip Baker

It looks like all the polar bear males in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park are getting along very well. Indiana and Yuma have excellent mentors in Hamish, Luka, Nobby and Sisu.

Wonderful to see!

Even on land the quartet – and the gulls! – is very friendly towards each other.

Hmm, I wonder if this is their hierarchical order …

Sharing a meal with the big boys isn’t a problem either.

Luka even had time for a nice moment with Nobby ….

Luka (left) only had eyes for Nobby this morning and spent most of the time trying to keep the others away from him

… who hurried to forward the ‘niceness’ to Sisu. This couple’s furs have an interesting colouring …. Have they been assisting the soot boys? Chim chiminey, chim chiminey, chim chim cher-ee! 🙂

Of course, we mustn’t forget Flocke and Tala either!

This is Flocke – white (or maybe off-white?), fluffy and roundish.

    • Dear Sheila, Mervi and Philip
Lovely to be able to see all 8 bears while lying in bed at home.
Flocke and Raspi’s boys have really shaken up Project Polar One. They are small bundles of energy.

  3. Dear Sheila and Philip!
These are quite wonderful photos of the polar bears in Yorkshire, which makes your heart swell! They got used to each other quickly, even became friends with each other and seem to be having a good time. Thank you so much!
Hamish looks a little tired, all the males seem extremely relaxed.
Flocke and Tala are very pretty and have quite beautiful fur.

    Hugs

  4. Dear Sheila & Philip,

the photos are great and one is more beautiful than the other.
I especially like the hirachie photos at dinner and in front of the cave entrance, as well as the portraits that show each bear so full of character!

The many seagulls are as annoying as the ravens are in zoos, but each species takes advantage of the moment to steal their share from other animals.

Mervi, thank you again for your lovely comments and the invigorating snowflakes in this post!

  5. YWP is a miraculous place where you can see so many polar bears at one time. How nice that the boys club is such a friendly place, and they are all getting along so well. Thanks for all the great photos and the story of friendship.

  6. Dear Sheila, Mervi and Philip

I think the pictures from the YWP are just bearishly beautiful 💖

The enclosures are beautiful and the bears look great.
What excites me most, though, is how everyone is getting on so well.
They play together and even feed together.
Flocke Tala also look gorgeous and they get on well together.

So I can hold on to that, that’s it. Bear heaven on earth. The keepers are doing a very very good job.

Thank you so much for the very adorable report and the wonderful pictures!

    Hugs,
    Anita
