Nach dem Besuch des Bryce Canyons sind wir zum Grand Canyon gefahren. Wir sind am späten Nachmittag angekommen. Unser Appartment war in einem Bungalow neben dem Haupthaus. Wir waren von der Dunkelheit überwältigt. Der Grand Canyon National Park wurde 2019 als International Dark Sky Park zertifiziert. Also gab es nur einzelne Laternen für die langen Bungalowreihen. Es war nicht einfach unser Appartment zu finden.
Am nächsten Tag sollte Regen am Nachmittag einsetzen. Wir sind zeitig los gegangen: den South Kaibab Trail entlang zum Skeleton Point. Der Grand Canyon ist ungefähr 1600m tief, von oben bis zum Skeleton Point ist der Höhenunterschied 618m. Gleich am Anfang haben wir wilde Ziegen getroffen.
After visiting Bryce Canyon, we drove to the Grand Canyon. We arrived in the late afternoon. Our apartment was in a bungalow next to the main house. We were overwhelmed by the darkness. Grand Canyon National Park has been certified as an International Dark Sky Park in 2019. So there were only single lanterns for the long rows of bungalows. It was not easy to find our apartment.
The next day rain was supposed to start in the afternoon. We started early along the South Kaibab Trail to the Skeleton Point. The Grand Canyon is about 1600m deep, from the top to Skeleton Point the difference in altitude is 618m. Right at the beginning we met wild goats.
Wir haben unterwegs eine Maultierkaravane getroffen. Die Maultiere bringen die Verpflegung in das kleine Hotel unten im Canyon. Nach oben bringen sie den Müll.
We met a mule caravan on the way. The mules bring the food to the small hotel down in the canyon. They take the garbage back to the top.
Die Raben waren auch da.
The ravens were there too.
Vom Skeleton Point sind kleine Häuser und der Fluss Colorado unten am Grund des Canyons zu sehen.
From Skeleton Point you can see small houses and the Colorado River down at the bottom of the Canyon.

Wir haben es geschafft beim guten Wetter nach oben zu kommen. In der Nacht hat es dann etwas geschneit. Der nächste Tag war kalt und wolkig. Wir haben eine Wanderung am Rand des Canyons gemacht. Wir hatten Glück und haben einige gute Ausblicke erwischt.
We managed to get up there in the good weather. Then it snowed a little during the night. The next day was cold and cloudy. We did a hike along the rim of the canyon. We were lucky and got some good views.
Ein Blauhäher / A blue jay
Am nächsten Tag schien wieder die Sonne und wir sind auf dem Bright Angel Trail gewandert ungefähr 600 m nach unten und dann wieder nach oben.
The next day the sun was shining again and we hiked on the Bright Angel Trail about 600 m down and then up again.

I have always thought that the Grand Canyon is only rocks but there seems to be a lot of life, too. I love the photo of the wild goat. It’s amazing how it can move in that terrain! – The ravens and the blue jay are very lovely, too.
The mule caravan is a sight we don’t see every day! 🙂 What a great idea to transport food and other things.
The canyon itself is, of course, very spectacular – what fantastic wiews it offers! Again I’m impressed by your hiking tours! Chapeau!

Wow, Eure Exkursionen durch diese überwältigenden Naturlandschaften in den USA sind schon sehr beeindruckend und mit Sicherheit für Euch unvergesslich. Fotos können die Realität immer nur eingeschränkt abbilden, Eure sind nichtsdestotrotz großartig und für sich schon ehrfurchtgebietend.
Auch diesmal habe ich mich über die Tiere, die Ihr dort sehen konntet besonders gefreut: die Ziegen, Maultiere, Raben und den Blauhäher, den ich besonders schön finde.
Auch wenn Ihr Schwierigkeiten hattet, Euren Bungalow zu finden, die Dark Sky Park Initiative in Nationalparks ist toll. In hell erleuchteten Städten kann man u.a. die Milchstraße am Himmel nicht mehr entdecken, in der freien Natur und in den Nationalparks sollte es aber noch uneingeschränkt möglich sein und der Sternenhimmel in seiner ganzen Pracht zu sehen sein.
