Excerpt from the press release on the 11th of January 2022.

Grönklittsgruppen AB, which among other things owns the facility in Orsa Grönklitt, has undergone a significant change process in 2021.

When we became the majority owner of the Grönklitts Group in 2021, we saw great opportunities for continued expansion and development of Orsa Grönklitt, driven by the long-term strongly positive trend around outdoor life and activity-based meetings, says the company’s chairman Göran Bronner.

At the same time as these investments, the company intends to close down the Predator Center. The park will be closed for the visitors during October 2022, until then the park will be open as usual. The operation is expected to be completely phased out within 24 months at the latest, with great focus on creating new and appropriate homes for the park’s animals. Trade union negotiations on the liquidation will begin during the current month.

Declining numbers of visitors and increased costs for running the Park have resulted in significant losses for many years. The company has respect for the important zoo work in education, conservation and research that is conducted within the framework of the Predator Park, but we believe that this work is better suited to be performed in another organization, Mari Tara explains.

By Mervi:

There are no less than 6 polar bears in Orsa – Wilbär, Ewa, Miki, Hope and her two babies. There are also wolves, lynx, snow leopards, Amur tigers, Persian leopards, wolverines, a Kodiak bear and a big number of brown bears in this park.

Wilbär was the first polar bear in Orsa

Where will they all go? We know how difficult it is to find homes for polar bears and almost impossible for the brown bears. We can only hope there will be new homes for ALL these poor animals.

I was so happy when Orsa announced there will be a fantastic polar bear world in the park. Now the happiness has turned into great sadness and disappointance.

Last year only a few zoos/animal parks were allowed breeding. Orsa was one of them and in November Hope gave birth to twin cubs. How sad that her babies can’t grow up in the wonderful enclosures in the park!

It’s hard to express my feelings without using unprintable words so I just say:

MONEY TALKS – ANIMALS ARE SILENT!
