Cranbeary turned 21 years old on Monday, November 21st! The keepers had arranged a nice birthday party for the sweet polar bear lady.
Cranbeary enjoyed some sweet birthday enrichment today courtesy of the zoo polar bear team!
Oh bear, so much of everything …. what will I choose?
This colourful cake looks very interesting!
Are you wondering what was in the blue cake? Zookeeper Sam Z. said “It’s ground polar bear chow and cream for the cake, and a mashed cauliflower “frosting” with frozen peanut butter and honey ‘candles’”. Yum!
Now I want to think pink! 🙂
Even the ravens were getting into the festivities.
Hmm, what does this raven expect to find here …. 🙂
Education Director Rich Capitan was also broadcasting live in a distance learning program to 100 kids in New York! A good time was had by all.
On behalf of the readers of this magazine I send my belated happy birthday wishes to you, beautiful Cranbeary!
Dear John! Thank you so much for all these lovely photos! I send my best greetings to you, Pat Lampi, all the animals and their keepers in the Alaska Zoo!

CranBEARy is indeed a right beauty and John Gomes is a gifted and enthusiastic photographer. Thank you, dear Mervi, for having given us the chance to kind of being part of the party of the beauties 21st birthday celebration and the well-planned and made actions around – crowned by your own words.
When I saw the pic “Now I want to think pink!” I couldn’t avoid a short grin thinking “Perhaps one should have sent her as a very special Ambassadrice to Katar . . . ;-))) . . . . No – No – No! I don’t want to know the lovely beaty tortured after all!
What a lovely photograph is the one where Cranceary licks with her tongue across the beautiful and colourful ice cake. What a wonderful eyecatcher it would have been in the stadium of the actual soccer world championship in the desert 🙂

Wishing you a happy new year in your life accompanied by your keepers, your court photographer and of course also by a lot of friendly visitors – with lots of as yummy as healthy treats troughout all year even if there is no special reason to celebrate 🙂
Grandbeary is an original name and also reveals something about her fondness for sweets, of which have been served in many bright colors for her birthday.
It is nice to see that birthdays are celebrated so lovingly, a custom that is unfortunately declining more and more in our zoos, which is a great pity. The event celebrated in this way also always attracts many visitors and solidifies the bonds.
Many thanks to you John and Mervi!
Of course, today we also congratulate all the bears in the European zoos, maybe there will even be photos of Aron, Ewa, Hope, Nuka & Qilak, Nivi & Elva ?
Best greetings and wishes!
Dear Mervi, dear John!
Thank you for this update from Alaska on Cranberry’s birthday party!
It’s great that some zoos celebrate the polar bears’ birthdays and the keepers involved make this day special not only for them, but also for the visitors who love the bears. You can see that the gifts were designed with a lot of love. Heartwarming!
Dear John! The power decal with Knut holding the blue planet in his paw is still working perfectly after a few battery changes.
Hugs and paw waves
