Yesterday we received the sad news from Ranua – our gorgeous Manasse has left us. I’m incredibly sad so it’s difficult to find any words but I wanted to make my tribute to a beloved polar bear friend.
Vesa and I had the great pleasure – and privilege – to meet Manasse in the beginning of June. The old chap was looking so good so it’s hard to understand this was the last time we saw him.
We had brought some melons to the polar bears and Manasse obviously liked the treats.
This is the last photo we took of Manasse showing the typical polar bear pose.
Manasse and Venus were very devoted to each other and even though Venus has a cub the couple very often ‘met’ each other by the wall between the two enclosures.
I feel deeply with Venus who must be wondering why she can’t sense the scent of Manasse anymore. Luckily she has Nalle to comfort her.
The following photos of the devoted couple need no further comments ….
Ice and snow were Manasse’s favourite elements and in Ranua he could enjoy the long Winters.
He was so beautiful in the snow ….
Dear Manasse, now you’re wandering on the eternal ice beyond pain and sorrow but I’m mourning just like all your friends.
Rest in peace, dear Silver Fox. Thank you for leaving a wonderful inheritage to us – your sons Ranzo and Nalle!
My condolences to the keepers and the whole staff in the Ranua Zoo. This beautiful bear lived with you for 25 years so it must have been very sad to let him go. However, he reached the respectable age of almost 28 years and had a good life with you. Sometimes we just have to put our own feelings aside and take the right decision – how ever hard it is …..
