The legends live forever ….

5.10.2022 – These memories were first published 5.12.2015 by Mervi, Collages by Doro

Nine years have gone since the day Tosca gave birth to a tiny polar bear baby. Unfortunately she couldn’t take care of the cub herself but we will always be grateful for the precious gift she gave us.

legend1

Thomas Dörflein gave the name ‘Knut’ to the cubbie and when the first photos of the keeper and the bear were published people throughout the world were charmed.

legend2

The story of Knut and TD has been told so many times and in so many ways that there’s no need to repeat it …. we can instead take a walk on the memory lane and remember all the wonderful moments we had.

legend3

The story had a very sad end but we can also claim it had no end …. why would so many Knut friends otherwise gather in Berlin year after year to celebrate our magic bear’s birth?!

legend4

Dear Knut, you were so special, so beloved – and you still are!

legend6

Our little dreamer keeps touching our hearts ….

legend7

Today would – and should! – have been your ninth birthday and maybe there would have been even small Knutis if you had been allowed to stay with us. It would have been so wonderful ….. With a deep sigh I just have to accept we can’t always get what we want. However, I’m happy having had the privilege of knowing you!

  1. Dear Mervi!
Thank you for the little trip down memory lane and the sensitive collages. These memories reliably evoke the old feelings I had when I stood touched and enchanted at the enclosure and watched the young polar bear Knut.
It was very special to be able to experience that time! It is unforgettable and cannot be repeated. All those who were there and loved Knut know what I mean.

    Hugs
    Anke

  2. Dear Mervi!
Thank you for this wonderful story. We had the happy times with Knut and TD. Unfortunately they both gone, but they still live in our hearts.

  3. Dear Mervi,
Such a lovely, touching tribute of obviously a very special polar bear and keeper. The collages are just beautiful.
I only came across the story of Knut and Thomas Dorflein a few years ago and I can see they have left an amazing imprint on the hearts of so many people.
    Thank you.

When I saw Knut with his googly eyes, it was all over me.

I know it’s boring to repeat again and again that time flies much too quickly and the capacity to remember as well – both with no return, I am afraid.]

    Dear Mervi [and Dear ALL/e]

The more it’s as amazing as touching that it’s so easy to BEAR in remembrance KNUT and all the stories around him, his keepers and true friends at times of his early life which was regrettably so short.

And it’s amazing as well to be aware that it wouldn’t be a lie to replace “Nine years have gone since . . .” by “Next to 16 years have gone since . . .” and no one would notice that your present contribution was already created on October 5th, 2015 for the first time. Isn’t it!?

Thank you for the 2015-contribution as much as for this 2022-publication with your well set and loving words and Doro’s phantasmagorical collages!

Have a beautiful weekend everyone, a weekend that’s worth to forget all about all(possible) personal and wordwide(for sure) sorrows and menace.

[These few words took me more than half an hour. May be this can give you kind of an imagination what I am taking about when I say that I am a snail and that every act and re/search takes me hours]
