Welcome Kara and Inuvik

🐻‍❄️🤍 We are excited to share some wonderful news – two new polar bears, Inuvik and Kara, have arrived at our wildlife park. Both are young females, and their journey to Ranua went smoothly.

At the moment, the bears are being given time to calmly familiarise themselves with their new enclosures, their keepers, and with each other. They will be visible to visitors starting next Friday. Our long-term resident Venus continues her life in her own enclosure and is still visible to the public.

This lovely girl is Inuvik

Our goal is that all three polar bears will eventually be able to live within the same large enclosure complex, once they have settled in and their social relationships are safe enough.

Kara was a little dirty but she will soon look whiter.

Please, excuse my dirty face but it was a long journey!!

Some good rolls in the snow will make my fur presentable again! 🙂

  1. Dear Mervi!
It’s always a relief when polar bears are transported from A to B without any problems. I hope Kara and Inuvik settle in quickly and well!
The last photo of Kara rolling around in the snow is my favourite. That looks very relaxing…

  3. Dear Mervi,

I would love to receive good news like yours from Ranua every day!
The risk of such a long journey should not be underestimated, so we are delighted that the two youngsters have come through it well. They now have plenty of time to settle in at their leisure, and perhaps we will be able to admire all three of them in a large enclosure in the spring.

    Warm regards,
    Britta-Gudrun
