This time I want to present Spreewald Marion’s photos of Knut with Giovanna. So many memories came back ….
When the polar bears’ enclosures in Hellabrunn, Munich were rebuilt Giovanna came to Berlin to spend some time with Knut.
We were all excited to see how the two young bears would get along.
From the first beginning it was obvious that Giovanna was the ‘leader of the gang’.
However, they got along very well. Knut was such a gentlebear and let Giovanna have her way.
The visitors were amazed seeing Giovanna jump into the water from the highest point in the enclosure.
Come on!
Knut wasn’t quite as brave but even he jumped in.
Who’s chasing who? 🙂
What I remember most of Giovanna was her way to come out from the den. She didn’t just come out – she made a grand entré. 🙂
Well, Knut was very kind and gentle but he knew how to treat Giovanna. Kindness is sometimes a clever way to get things on your way – isn’t it? 🙂
I’m sure both Knut and Giovanna enjoyed each other’s company despite some small arguments.
It was a pity Giovanna had to return to Hellabrunn but, of course, she was only a ‘loan’.
Das waren spannende Zeiten und nach anfänglicher Scheu wurden die Beiden gute
Spielkameraden – vielleicht die schönste Zeit in Knuts viel zu kurzem Leben…

I can still remember how shy and fearful Knut was when they began their time together. Giovanna wore the trousers from the very beginning, and that didn’t change until they parted ways. She stole many a pumpkin from Knut and, as the boss, also wanted to have control over the toys.
When Giovanna and Knut started playing together and becoming friends, everyone was very relieved, and Knut learned to be a polar bear. Bittersweet memories…

Ich denke auch, daß Knuts Zeit mit Giovanna sowohl die beste Zeit für ihn war und auch die natürlichste in seinem viel zu kurzen Eisbärenleben war. So rührend schön seine Verbindung mit Thomas war, erst Giovanna lehrte ihn die Regularien eines Eisbärenlebens mit für uns so wehmütigen und zugleich zauberhaften Erinnerungen.

Ich glaube auch, dass Knut über die positive Zuwendung Toscas im Laufe der Zeit auch mit dem gesamtem Damentrio akzeptiert worden wäre, wenn ihm das Schicksal die Zeit dazu gelassen hätte….
Thank you for bringing Giovanna this month. In the years since I have visited a number of different Polar Bear pairings.
Knut was not alone in showing respect to his new visitor.Other more experienced male Polar Bears also know that female Polars expect it.

Mit einem dankbaren und doch wehmütigen Blick habe ich mir die schönen Fotos von Knut und Giovanna angeschaut. Die beiden haben sich gut verstanden und es war für Knut wohl die natürlichste vielleicht auch die schönste Phase, die leider viel zu kurz gewesen ist…🐻❄️🐻❄️💝😊
Wobei ich den Gedanken teile, dass Knut auch die Gemeinschaft mit Tosca genossen hat und er sich, wenn ihm mehr Zeit geblieben wäre, in die Mädels-Gruppe integrieren hätte können….🐻❄️🐻❄️🐻❄️🐻❄️
