This article was first published in May 2021 but I think we can refresh our memories once again!
We called this special year ‘TwothousandKnut’ with all the reason. This was a year we will always remember! What fantastic and beautiful memories we have from that happy year!
Our magic bear charmed the whole world.
Knut and Thomas Dörflein made a Dream Team that stole our hearts.
Knut was always curious about the visitors. It often felt we had an eye contact with him.
He was a master of changing his fur colour in only seconds flat.
We all loved the touching scenes between a keeper and his beloved bear.
We will always have a warm place in our hearts for our magic Knuti boy.

These are very sweet photos by Gudrun of little chubby Knut.
It feels strange and unreal that we only had Knut for four years and that we have now been without him for 14 years. The memories of him and of that time are still very vivid!
It is terrible and painful that we have lost him, but so wonderful that he existed! Everyone who knew and experienced him will never forget him.

that was a magical year with Knut as a growing bear teenager and his loving foster father Thomas Dörflein!
Each of these photos and scenes are part of our shared memory of this beloved dream team and will remain unforgotten. Unfortunately, Knuti had to spend all his days at the enclosure far too early and often soothed his loneliness with intensive sucking on his paws. But he also learnt how to communicate with his fans and to engage with every little object in the enclosure.
And because it was such a magical time, we are still connected today, 14 years after Knut’s sudden and tragic death, in this community here on your blog. What other animal could claim that?

Time has not healed losing Knut and Thomas. But the magic of the four years we had with Knut remains.
