Jimmy’s Farm in April – Hope

8.5.2028 by Pat Waldron

My first visit to Jimmy’s Farm this year on the 28th of April found Hope, Flocke, Tala & Ewa all doing very well. Hope is seen here investigating the salt bath before making a quick exit after Flocke & Tala appeared.

The salt bath is the polar bears’ spa. 🙂

Should I jump in …

… or should I taste the water?

Yikes, the water doesn’t taste very yammy!!

hope9

Oh no, there are intruders – I think they are Flocke and Tala!

Hope had to escape ….

… and leave the ‘scene’ to Tala.

However, Tala left the salt bath very quickly. Maybe Hope could claim the bath again later.

  2. Dear Pat!
The salt water bath is a great facility for the female bears and I can imagine that each of them loves to bathe in it….
Good that they have enough room to get out of the way when the air gets a bit thicker.
Tala seems to be very happy judging by the colour of her fur… Flocke and Hope, on the other hand, are following the trend towards bright white. Beautiful too!

  3. Dear Pat and Mervi
It is interesting to compare the all-girl groups in Emmen, Munich and Jimmy’s Farm with the three ladies in Berlin Zoo. In each case one Polar seems to be the Head Girl. Giovanna in Munich and Tosca in Berlin. Flocke seems to be the strongest at Jimmy’s.
Perhaps because of the instinct to protect cubs female Polars are less sociable than the males.

  4. Dear Pat!
Thank you for this lovely story.
The salt bath is an interesting adventure for the bears.
    Hugs
    Ludmila
