While on holiday in Switzerland, we also visited the fantastic Sikypark. This is an animal rescue park where old or sick animals that can no longer find a place elsewhere or have been rescued from illegal keeping are taken in.
They all have really nice large enclosures that have been lovingly decorated with lots of toys and activities.
Recently, 10 cats (2 bobcats, 2 servals, 1 sand cat, 1 fish cat and 4 hybrids) were also taken in, all from illegal private keeping. All really great animals. 😻😻
They are all incredibly cute, but of course they do NOT belong in private ownership. And certainly not in the breeding of hybrids. However, cute videos on social media are making them increasingly popular. The Sikypark therefore expressly warns against sharing or liking such posts.
I definitely agree with this, as it causes the animals no end of suffering. 😿😿 That’s why it’s so important to keep drawing attention to this.

Dear Gerti! Thank you so much for this heart warming article! I totally agree with you and the owners of this park – private keeping or life in a circus is not for these animals!
Dear Gerti,
it is a blessing that such confiscated animals are kept in a species-appropriate environment here.
That’s exactly the problem, or the curse of the internet, that videos of such private and illegal keeping encourages so many imitators.
Thank you for the beautiful photos and your information about this park!
Best wishes for you

Dear Gerti!
Thank you for this contribution!
Every animal in human care deserves to be lovingly and appropriately cared for. Animals are not things over whose life and freedom humans can decide without restriction. Wild animals belong in the wild, free and untamed. Exceptions – e.g. the rescue of orphaned young animals or animals from poor husbandry and natural disasters – confirm the rule. It’s good that such facilities exist, it’s a pity that they have to exist!
The rescued cats shown here look beautiful.
