From 12 March, visitors to Karlsruhe Zoo will be able to take a look at the little polar bear and its mother Nuka. There will be a few rules to ensure the animals feel at home:

🔹 The area around the enclosure will remain cordoned off.

🔹 Access is regulated so that it doesn’t get too crowded (max. 50 people).

🔹 Every day between 9.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m., zoo visitors are allowed to enter the enclosure for five minutes.

🔹 The animals can retreat to the non-visible indoor area at any time. 🔹 A video wall provides live insights into the enclosure.

On 2 November 2024, the little polar bear cub was born in a half-cave in the outdoor enclosure. At the first medical examination a few months later, he weighed a good 9.6 kilos and fought back with all his strength – a very good sign for the little bear’s development! 🐾

The small, clumsy polar bear cub took Karlsruhe’s hearts by storm. In the wild, the cub mortality rate is more than 80 per cent. ‘We are all the more delighted now,’ says zoo director Reinschmidt.

By the way: Father Kap is housed in the large part of the outdoor enclosure and can be seen there by zoo guests. He was not allowed to see Nuka and the young bear. In the wild, males and females usually only come together to mate, after which they part ways again. 🐻‍❄

A real highlight for Karlsruhe! 🌍🐾

  5. Willkommen kleiner MIKA!
