They’re currently hanging out on land, awaiting the return of the sea ice. Hudson Bay is in the seasonal sea ice region, which means the sea ice fully melts every summer, forcing the bears ashore.
While on land, they are conserving energy until they can get back to the sea ice and hunt their main prey, seals.
They often spend much of their time on land laying low and sleeping in the lush Canadian tundra. Our team spotted this beautiful bear curling up near Churchill this past July.
A Hudson Bay polar bear chilling in the Canadian Tundra – just magnificent!
Dear Kaya and Mervi!
Thank you for the touching photos of this polar bear on shore leave in Hudson Bay. I also suspect that it is a female and that she is still quite young. She seems to enjoy snuggling up in bushes and heather and sniffing the scents of the flowering plants.
I wish her a good life without hunger and diseases!
Hugs
Anke
Dear Kay and Mervi!
Thank you for the wonderful pictures of the polar bear at the shore. I hope the bears will find enough food.

A beautiful scene with the polar bear resting among the flowers.
Yes, they need a lot of patience and perseverance until the ice cover closes so that they can finally go seal hunting again.
Unfortunately, their future looks very bleak, but they are not the only ones to suffer from the effects of climate change…
