Martina in Rostock – Part 1

3.9.2024 – Photos by Martina Ho

Martina visited the Rostock Zoo and was glad to meet Gisela and the 5 polar bears there. This article is all about Noria because she has a special place in Martina’s heart.

Noria came close to the glass panel to meet her visitors.

Noria was born on the 21st of November 2015 in Brno. Her mother Cora still lives there but father Umka died six years ago. Noria came to Rostock in August 2018.

The keepers had prepared nice surprises to Noria in the water.

A very elegant way to eat a melon.

Now there’s not so much left of the treat.

Multi tasking – waving to the visitors and eating at the same time. 🙂

Wow! There were grapes, too!

After the ‘happy hour’ it was time for some water games.

Hello Martina! How nice of you to come and visit me.

Look, what I’ve got!

Noria got her name after a character in the Finnish author Emmi Itäranta’s book Memory of Water.

Of course, she has a nice nickname, too – Norinka. I like that!

  1. Dear Mervi & Martina,
Thank you so much for your lovely report with beautiful photographs of Noria, she looks like one very happy polar bear!
It must be an amazing feeling for visitors to be up close and personal with these gentle giants.
    Best Wishes
    Pat

  2. Dear Martina and Mervi!
I am very glad to see Noria busy with many different things. It is a bit pity that Noria did not play with Lily.
    Hugs
    Ludmila

  4. Dear Martina!
You were able to take great photos of Noria, who is obviously doing very well. The carers spoil her with treats and changing toys and keep her happy, as your pictures impressively show. The photos behind the glass pane are great and I particularly like them! She seems to like her audience.
    Thank you very much!
Dear Mervi! Thank you for editing!

    Hugs
    Anke

  5. Lovely!! I love that I can “see” all the beautiful bears when others travel around, take pictures and videos and share them. Thank you so very much!!
