Wittenberg – also called ‘Lutherstadt Wittenberg’ – is located in Saxony-Anhalt. We warmly welcome you to Wittenberg Zoo!
The Tierpark Wittenberg was founded in 1928 and today has a lovingly designed total area of 5064 square metres. This makes it one of the smallest zoos in Germany. On this area it is possible to experience a wide variety of animal species in their natural habitat.
ELBE AQUARIUM
Our Elbe aquarium recreates the course of the Elbe from its source to its confluence with the North Sea.
In 1996, a breathtaking remodelling took place for the first time, making our aquarium the only cold-water aquarium in Saxony-Anhalt. Over 50 different species of fish from the Elbe regions and the North Sea can be marvelled at in five large, near-natural display aquariums.
MONKEY HOUSE
The South America House provides a habitat for a total of 10 different animal species. The most frequently seen are marmosets, such as the golden-headed lion tamarins, liszt monkeys, jumping tamarins, emperor moustached tamarins and other representatives of this interesting animal species. The well-known squirrel monkeys also have a lovingly designed enclosure there.
It is also possible to experience the socialisation of different animal species in some of our enclosures. We have 8 species of monkey in this enclosure as well as black-backed agoutis and wild guinea pigs. Our visitors also have the opportunity to look directly into the enclosures of the different monkey species when they enter the park.
As you enter the visitor corridor, you have the opportunity to view our animals simultaneously, both in the indoor enclosures and in the outdoor areas. Simply stroll under the passages from the indoor areas to our outdoor animal areas and marvel at the funny interactions between animals and humans.
PETTING ENCLOSURE
The absolute highlight for our younger visitors is of course our petting enclosure. Here everyone has the opportunity to come into direct contact with our animals. Dwarf goats are always very happy to receive an extra feed from our automatic feeders and the cute guineapigs make children’s eyes light up. Children can cuddle, play and watch our animals here.
AVIARIES
Observe different species of owls in our unique animal park. Among them you will even find the largest European owl (eagle owl). Various parakeet species, grey parrots, peacocks and mandarin ducks provide an additional exotic flair. We look forward to your visit!
Why not visit us with the whole family, friends and acquaintances? Marvel at the artistically designed animal enclosures and seating areas. Experience how different animal species live together and enjoy our lovingly designed flora.
If you have any questions or suggestions, our trained animal keepers will be happy to help you.
Our zoo is open daily from 9.30 am to 6.00 pm
Dear Leti,
That’s quite a surprise!
You live far south in Greece and send us a nice report from a zoo in Saxony. So Germany isn’t that far away from you after all.
There is a wide variety of animals in this small zoo and it doesn’t always have to be the ‘big five’ that a zoo harbours. Your beautiful and expressive photos show this very clearly and I say thank you very much with best regards!

Dear Leti!
Thank you for presenting a ‘new’ zoo to the readers of this magazine!
This little zoo looks like a friendly place with many sweet animals. The white doves are my favourites but, naturally, I love all the animals!
Hugs from Mervi
Dear Mervi,
Thank you very much for publishing the photos my brother sent me. I am looking forward to visiting Tierpark Wittenberg. Best wishes to all the wonderful animals that live there.
Dear Leti!
Thank you for introducing us to the animal park in Wittenberg!
It’s always great when you have the opportunity to visit and observe well-cared-for animals. These small animal parks are often run with a lot of love and commitment.
The sitting chubby meerkat and the budgerigar are my favourites this time.
Hugs
Anke
Dear Leti and Mervi!
