Visiting Colchester Zoo

25.5.2024 by Pat Waldron

What a wonderful time I had on my first visit to Colchester Zoo, where over 150 species reside in 60 acres of lush green parkland. It is situated in the south-east of England and a 30-minute drive from Jimmy’s Farm, the home of polar bears Flocke, Tala & Ewa.

Beautiful shrubbery lined pathways meander through the zoo with something interesting almost at every turn. There are many different habitats housing a wide range of animals including elephant, rhino, giraffe, tigers, leopard, wolves, primates, komodo dragons, penguins, otters and much more.

The zoo is very well maintained with excellent enclosures providing enrichment for animals, plus lots of indoor viewing areas.

Colchester Zoo is a ‘must visit’ zoo………it will certainly not be my last!

  1. Hello Pat,

Nice to hear from you about this new zoo. According to your report, the animals live in beautiful enclosures where they really feel at home. that’s how it should be.

    Many thanks and best regards!

  2. Dear Pat!
I can also understand why you liked this zoo so much. The animals seem relaxed and endearing, the facilities are attractive and your great pictures set the scene wonderfully. One day is certainly not enough to discover everything and give all the animals the attention they deserve.
I particularly liked the photos of the affectionate penguins, the graceful Kirk Dik Dik, the cheeky pygmy marmoset and the orangutans who wanted to play hide and seek with you. Thank you for showing us!

    Hugs
    Anke

  3. Wieder ein interessanter Zoo,
den ich noch nicht kannte. Es
scheint den Tieren gut zu gehen
dort. Danke für die Fotos ! 🙂

  4. Dear Pat!
The zoo looks very green. The animals have the big enclosures. I like the 2 penguins very much.
    Hugs
    Ludmila
