27.3.2024 – Photos by Marko Junttila and the Ranua Wildlife Park
The Spring in north Finland is very different from the Spring south of Scandinavia. There’s still lots of snow and the temperatures are many degrees under zero.
Venus can feel the soft snow under her paws during her walks in the enclosure. For the time being she’s the only polar bear in Ranua but I hope she will soon have a companion. There are two equal enclosures so there would be place for a whole family if there was a baby bear. As you remember Manasse didn’t have to leave when Ranzo and Sisu were born!
The ice in the ‘pool’ is slowly melting. Anybody there?
It’s also possible to have a real polar bear bath in the ice cold water. Brrrrr!
The enclosure looks very arctic. Sometimes I wish I was a bird so I could get close to a polar bear. 🙂
The arctic fox is still keeping it’s fur snow white.
My home is my castle … or rather igloo. 🙂
The moose family sun bathing in the snow.
This wolf seems to be enjoying the pale sun rays, too.
Because this park is practically a wood the visitors can meet many ‘free’ animals, too.
What a perfect camouflage!
Many beautiful birds can, of course, be seen during a visit.
Amazing – isn’t it?
Looking for a place for a nest?
This cutie was having a lunch break.
Malla has awakened from her hibernation and she was enjoying the white world outside the den. The snow is a comfortable easy chair! 🙂
Rolling in the snow is always soooo fun!
Spring feelings
Say hello to Gunnar, the musk ox calf 😍 Gunnar has enchanted everyone with his soft and fluffy presence. After a while, Gunnar will grow a magnificent horn core to protect his skull, but for now, his head is surrounded only by warm wool. 💙
This kind of scenes can be seen in Ranua, too!
Venus wishes you all a pleasant Spring time – with or without snow!

It’s impossible to chose something one likes best to see and/or to read, as EVERYTHIND is so beautiful and charming!
All the photographs are as marvellous as the animals are gorgeous!
Fitting remarks like “ANYBOY THERE?” make me so much smile.
I like this kind of sense of humour.
VALESKA is a beauty for sure, the arctic fox not less . . .
etc. etc.
Thank you so much!
I am next to sure I will come back to this contribution tomorrow or during the Easter holidays in order to being able to relish all this a second time . . .
Dear Mervi and Marko!
These are dreamlike and magical winter pictures and videos from Ranua, where winter is very reluctant to retreat. The purest contrast to our spring weather in Berlin, which has already brought us many blossoming flowers and shrubs and temperatures of over 15°Celsius. Venus and all the other animals of the north – foxes, wolves, bears, moose and all the others – don’t seem too sad that spring is still a long way off. They look beautiful and happy and the photos are great! Many thanks for showing them!
Hugs
Anke
